pro-92 motorola trunking question

Hello i just purchased a used pro-92 and am having one small problem. When i program in the 3 frequencies for my local fire department it will recieve communications and display the id, however i have to continusly press scan because it always stops on the control channel and the audio is then heard from the control and it wont jump to an active frequency. Any help on what iam doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you have Cat No. 20-522, erase them. If you have Cat No. 20-522A or 20-522B, lock them out.

thank you for the quick reply i dont quite get what you are saying, are you refering to a talk group id?

Make sure you have all channels set up as Motorola trunking, and the bank mode must also be set to MO. Check the manual for details.

I am not sure whether you have the original version (firmware 1.00) or the A (version 3.25) or B (version 3.28 ). After power on, there's a key sequence which will display the firmware version (forgot what it is).

I would not "erase" the control channel if that is what was suggested. The reason is that if you have an A or B version, you need the control channel for tracking on 800MHz. If you are on a VHF or UHF system, the control channel is not used (for all versions), but if the control channel rotates and becomes a voice channel, you will be eventually be missing a voice channel. The control channel should be locked out. If the CC changes, you unlock the old one and lock out the new one.

Make sure the radio is in trunking mode also. I have a 92 but have not used it in awhile as it is the original one and I can't stand to hand program anymore
I believe you can lock out the control channel and it will still trunk that system as long as you are in trunking mode.

My friend has the same problem you do, all I done to solve
his problem was make the bank 'closed'.
Then hit scan and it will work fine, it will only monitor the id's you put
in memory but it will solve the problem of the scanner stopping
on the control channel when scanning in open mode.

When you turn the radio on, while the welcome screen is being displayed, press the 3 key. Then tell us which version you have.

Ok, just lock out the frequency makeing the buzzy noise (The control channel). When you turn the scanner off and then back on, the scanner will unlock that channel automaticaly, so you will have to lock it out every time you turn it on.

As you can see im relatively new to the forums , anyhow Im about to recieve a Pro - 92 on a trade and i dont understand why you whould have to lock the control channels out cant you just use the programming software and use the closed feature? I mean thats why we buy trunk trackers is to avoid having to lock out control channels. if thats the way this pro 92 is gonna be ill try it out for a little while but if its not to my likeing like i think its gonna be it will be up for sale soon! the wheeling wva system switches data channels every night at 12 am it would be kinda annoying to lock out each channel all the time.

Locking out the CC is not required on Pro-92 A (3.25 firmware) or B (3.28 firmware). Only on V1 firmware, and as you stated, in open mode is locking out required. Also all CC's will be unlocked automatically on boot up when the scanner is turned on, so only the current CC needs to be locked out.

BTW, pressing FUNC + 2 will easily toggle the scanner between Open/Closed mode regardless of the software setting.
