Pro-93 owners,

I have been playing with the keypad tricks for a while,
and until now I have not seen any changes exept for a @ sign
instead of the usual +/- sign (band lockout).

So I started observing the effects of the 0 4 keypad trick.

This is what it does (or you do):

After doing the 0 4 keypad trick.

(This is done but pushing 0 then 4 RIGHT after turning the radio ON, when "Welcome to Dual Trunking" displays)

On a trunking CONTROL channel, MO:CNTRL or ED:CTL-xx, in MANUAL mode.

The Signal Strength of the trunking control channel will be displayed. I'm assuming this is signal strength, because the number goes down when I cover the antenna, change position, and remove the antenna.

A 2 digit number will show up just before the @ sign, "overwriting"
the D and L, if they where there in the first place.

Signal strengths of 01, 02 or more are actually 101, 102 etc.
The minimum usable trunk signal strenght is about 10.

The signal strenght does NOT show up in SCAN mode.

For sure this works on the Pro-93, maybe on the Pro-92 or probrably more likely also on the new Pro-95.

I found this feature to be very usefull the see how far I could hear the trunked system.

On a final note, if you intend on playing with the keypad tricks,
make sure you first download your scanner to your computer! Some of them will erase your memory!

Enjoy,

Michael

Hello,

I remember playing with this trick a while back when I used to own a Pro-93. My experience was the same as yours - higher numbers meant better reception. Someone told me that what the meter is actually measuring is how many "updates" can be read from the control channel each second. You will notice that the max number is different for EDACS and Motorola control channels. So, while this is not -technically- a signal strength meter, it indirectly has the same effect.

Regards,

Same here for the Pro-2053

I tryed the 0,4 keypad sequence on my 2053. On the data channel it displays numbers between 37 and 45. 26 and 38 on
another county Mot channel. Interesting.

The Pro-92 has a similar "S-Meter" capability; however, the keystrokes for getting into the "trick" mode is <0> then <3> during the "Welcome" screen. (0-4 does nothing but defeat the time delay of the Welcome screen.) The Pro-92 original model (Ver 1.00 firmware) does go into somesort of mode with 0-3 but it does not show signal strength. My Pro-2067 (Ver 3.25 firmware) and Pro-92b (Ver 3.28 firmware) both show a signal strength overwritting the positions of where the "D" & "L" would be for delay and lock-out apparently like the 93 mentioned previously. However, they show the strength in Hex and it does not appear to translate directly to a decimal scale of 1 to 100. The difference on the Pro-92 is that you can still see this while in SCAN mode. It does flash but then again the entire screen shows what is happening. The actual scan can be observed (it goes by pretty fast) but when it locks on a signal that signal shows a signal strength. Pretty neat!

Caution to Pro-92 owners who want to try this, don't get sloppy with your keystrokes, 0 then 1 on Welcome will reset the scanner and 0 then 2 on Welcome will load a test set of frequencies. Both of these actions will "kill" anything you have in there. :)
