Hello everyone. New to RR. Great site.

I was very disapointed to read about the FCC 800 MHz rebanding plan, mainly because I just got a Pro-95, which is probaby the coolest scanner I have ever owned. Got a great leather case and all the accessories, pretty much figured I had bought my last portable scanner for some time (the 95 replaced a PRO 60 which I bought 10 years ago). Now WHAMMO - rebanding. I have been reading several of the different threads trying to figure out what I should do, but I can't determine exactly what is in store for me. Perhaps someone can answer these questions for me:

1. Am I completely out of luck? Will my PRO 95 be able to trunk track the rebanded systems?

2. If the radio is not capable of trunking the new systems, will RS/GRE be offering any kind of upgrade/fix?

I also feel horrible becuase I just took a buddy down to the local RS and picked one of the 95's up for him ($129.99). Now I think we'll take his back.

Can anyone put my mind at ease?

Thanks.

1. You may get lucky if:

a) The system you want to monitor only requires ONE of the 6 tables.

b) RS or GRE comes out with an upgrade.

2. Unknown.

They MAY, but as the PRO-95 is being replaced by the PRO-97, they may not support discontinued units when rebanding becomes reality.

There also may be some systems in the 855-861 MHz segment that won't be moving. Those may still be usable with the PRO-95. But, sooner or later, they likely will have to upgrade their equipment - especially if they want to add channels.

Actually, you should be just as worried about 700 MHz. That's another band the PRO-95 doesn't cover.

It was discontinued before rebanding was even anounced so don't
expect anything from Radio Shack with upgrading its firmware.
You should feel lucky considering you only gave $129 for yours, I
gave about $230 for mine less than 18 months ago before they
desided to discontinue it. It is a little disapointing that I will not be able
to use it after this all takes place to track the trunk but still will be usable
on conventional freqs. (still plenty of them around here)
