I don't know the correct verbage to search for, so I will reference what I can, and describe what I would like.

I have a Pro 90, and just picked up a Pro 95.
The Pro 90 works how I would like my Pro 95 to be setup as, yet I don't know how to mimic what the pro 90 is setup like.

http://www.joescanner.com/freqsrch.php?Step=1&systems=B290F
has a list of frequencies. When I enter these in I get Fire and Police, yet it doesn't seem to track the conversations,

I found a list of talkgroups, and I think these are in my pro 90, but don't know how to operate it to see the freq and talk groups.
I found a list of frequencies on joescanner for "Washington County" but do not know what to do with them.. here they are:

TRUNKED FREQUENCIES

Frequencies appearing in RED are Control/Data channels

Site 1: Washington County Simulcast
859.2375 859.7375 860.2375 860.7375 854.9875
855.2375 855.9625 856.2375 857.2375 858.2375

When I entered all of these in it doesn't follow a conversation, so I researched more, it seamed I needed talkgroups, and found the below listed on the same page. I've broken them down into two banks (or channels?) that I would like them seperated into as follows

Here is what I want to track on bank 1:

TRUNKED TALKGROUPS
50032 Washington County Fire Training 2
50128 Washington County Fire Administration
50160 Washington County Fire Training 1
50448 Washington County Fire Tac 6
50480 Washington County Fire Tac 5
50512 Washington County Fire Tac 4
50544 Washington County Fire Tac 3
50576 Washington County Fire Tac 2
50608 Washington County Fire Tac 7
50640 Washington County Fire Dispatch

Here is what I want to track on bank 2:
57232 Hillsboro PD F7 (Tac 2)
57264 Hillsboro PD F6 (Tac 1)
57296 Hillsboro PD F5 (Admin)
57328 Hillsboro PD F4 (Detectives)
57360 Hillsboro PD F3 (Records)

When I enter just the talk groups with no freq it says "all channels locked out"

What do I do to get this thing to just track fire when I want just fire? :)

Thank you!

You have to enter all the frequencies into bank one and bank two. If you use control channel only tracking just enter the control frequencies into each bank. Be sure to enter them as trunking and the bank is set to motorola if it is a motorola system?
After the frequencies are entered as trunk then you can enter the talk groups you want to monitor in each seperate bank. Be sure to set the banks to closed so you will only receive the programed talk groups. Func key then the 5 key will toggle the banks open and closed mode. Best bet is to go to www.starsoft.com and download a copy of Win95 and purchase a pc to scanner programing cable and use the software to do this as it is more simple than doing it by hand. Hope this helps. :D

Bandit is correct, you should get the software, even if you don't yet have the cable, the software (through the programming interface) will give you an overview of how the radio is programmed. However, comparing what you said to the way the Pro-90 works, I think you are referring to "scan banks" one and two.

The Pro-95 is a control channel only scanner for Motorola trunktracking. This means all you have to enter is the control channels (Bandit, there is never a need to program all the freqs in Pro-95 for Moto.) The system you are looking at is actually spread out over several counties and you can get a better view of the system by reviewing it here on this site. (Joe won't get upset, he is the admin for Washington & Oregon here. :) ) In any case place the CC's in the frequency bank of your choice, then program the ID Scan banks 1 & 2 with the talkgrouops as you described above. Other than the actual key presses and the fact that you don't have to have the system actually available to program TG's, the Pro-90 and 95's aren't that much different in concept to program. BTW, I still use my Pro-90 on a daily basis, it was a great little radio. :D

I did, that is why I commented. There is no if involved, the Pro-95 only uses CC method with Moto systems. :D

Well I'll be darn. I have one and I did not even know that. I use CC only with it but did not know thats the only way it did moto. On page 60 of the manual for 800Mhz you have two options Normal or Offset. The default is normal if you use offset you have to program the base freq. 858.0125 and the offset is 851.0000 . Note not need for 900Mhz. If you use normal you just put in the four CC frequencies, which is the way I run mine. Guess thats what I was thinking about at the time. Thanks loumaag... :D :D

Yes, and after putting in the base and offset, you still need to program the CC's, anything else is just...well taking up space. :D

Thanks for the responses, I have all the freq programmed in, but do not know how to enter the talk groups into the banks.
The manual talks about entering them in as the come across the scanner.
can you clarify how to enter the talk groups into the banks?
when I try to enter them it states invalid frequency :)
Thanks!

and just so I understand this correctly, I need to enter all the frequencies into each bank, even if they are the same freq?
is that so the bank knows what channel to pull from when you select talk groups?
Seems once I figure out how to enter talk groups i'm set?
I'm lookin into ordering the purple cable.

Just re-read your post...
So put just the CC(Control Channels) which are the red frequencies into say bank 0, and then somehow add the talk groups in the same bank?
can you show me an example please? :)
Thanks for the help.

Yes, just put the control channel frequencies in the frequency bank (in MO mode) and then program the Talkgroups you are interested in in the Talk Group ID banks as you want. As the owners manual says, you can program them in by listening and pressing <TRUNK> when you hear one that you want to listen to in the future or (if you keep reading) you can program the ones you want in advance by following the directions starting on page 63 (of my copy) just after the discussion of storing them by pressing <TRUNK>.

Thank you sir, I found your responses and page 63 very helpful. I've entered them in and now have it in closed mode. waiting to hear a call on my 90 to see if it comes through on the 95.
Thanks again.

I'm getting the fire channels perfectly now! Thanks

Next question ;) :
I entered a control channel on Bank 0-1 ID. No 1,2,3,4 and 5.
I then entered the control frequencies into bank 1 (bank 0 is used as my fire channel). When I lock the bank down I do not hear any of the calls.
I'm guessing that bank 0-1 was not the right place to enter these?
Please assist.
Thanks.

I am a little confused by your description, but I am guessing that you entered the control channel(s) (CC) in Frequency Bank 1 which covers frequency slots 100 - 199 and you just used the first one or first few. If that is the case then the ID Bank you need to use is Bank 1 not Bank 0. The description you used of Bank 0-1 would indicate you are using Frequency Bank 0; ID Scan Bank 1. If you load frequencies into Freq. Bank 1, then the Display for TG's needs to be like Bank 1-0 or 1-1 or 1-2, etc.

Remember, frequencies and talkgroups are not the same things. Frequencies go into frequency slots like 100, 101, 102, etc. See page 27 of the manual for a picture of that screen. See Page 57 for a picture of TG banks.

You really need to download the Win95 software, even if you don't have a cable. It allows you to "see" what the radio's layout is like and hence can understand the way you need to program it. Of course if you get the cable, it really becomes easy. :)

Good evening,
When I turn on the scanner, and press "PGM" I see frequencies in Bank 0 Ch 01 - Ch 04.
When I press trunk, I have Control Channels in Bank 0-0 ID No 01-14 all on Bank 0-0.
This is what is setup for fire.

When I press Trunk again from here, it switches me to Bank 0-1 where I have the police Control Channels programed on ID no. 01 - 05.
When I look under Bank 1 I have frequencies in CH 00 - 03

Does this help?
I'm getting a better understanding of this thing with your help. thanks for taking the time to walk me through this.

BTW I do have the Win95 software, which when I enter the frequencies in and move to the next slot it clears what I entered! :O

That has helped me understand how the channels and banks are laid out as you claimed it would.

Cable being ordered this week :)
Thanks again.

Actually your description is just fine. It is your programming (or your use of terms) that is all wrong.

Control Channels are frequencies. Those are the numbers that have a decimal point in them. Like 856.0125 or 156.5000. It is impossible to program frequencies (and hence control channels) into the Trunking Scan bank because it will not accept the decimal point.

Talkgroups (TG's) are just numbers, like 48 or 144. They go into the Scan Bank. There are no such things as control channel talkgroups.

Now back to the problem at hand. If you put frequencies in frequency bank 1 (like 100, 101, 102) then the Talkgroups for that system go into scan bank 1 so the display will show something like this:]
Code:
Bank 1-0 ON | or | Bank 1-1 ON | etc.
ID NO. 00 | | ID NO. 00 |
MOT: none | | MOT: none |
              | | |
And this is where you are supposed to program the talkgroups for Bank 1. Not in Bank 0, Bank 1 because this is a seperate system.

Now if you were just programming more talkgroups for the same system (systems are determied by the frequencies, not the talkgroups) then you could indeed put other TG's in "Bank 0-1", but don't call them control channels. 8)

I am heading for bed, but tell you what, put where you are in your profile and post what system you are trying to program and I will put a quick .p95 file (for Win95) together and attach it to this thread, then you can see what it is supposed to look like.

Tomorrow, though, I am lights out now! 8)
