I want to start using either an AC or DC adapter to power the radio and I have a question on the milliamp rating. I know that I need 9 volts but what exactly is the milliamp rating for? I have found adapters that are rated for 200, 500, and 600 mA, however this radio calls for 300mA. Will the radio work with slightly lower or higher miliamp rating? and what is the mA rating used for?

The mA rating should be at or above what's required for the radio. In your example, the 200 wouldn't provide sufficient power, but the 500 or 600 should work fine.

Unless you got a 300 layn around looks like you will be going with the 500. I run a Pro 95 and a 96 off off a 800 that has a "Y" connector. If you go with the 200 your scan speed and backlighting wont be up to par. Hoser

Only if the voltage goes high the scanner will only take what it needs to run, won't hurt a bit to go bigger, go for the 500.

300 ma at 9 volts

If ALL you are doing is powering the radio, you can get by with the 200 ma adapter. BUT, the typical user has rechargeable batteries in the scanner, and they take some current (150 ma @ 6 volts). Otherwise ideally any adapter that is 9 volts and at least 300 ma will work.
