I have a PRO-95 with the Yellow batter holder and NiMh batteries. When I plug in the A/C adapter, the scanner goes black. It comes back on as soon as I remove the jack. I tested the voltage using a meter and it is 9V and the polarity is correct.

Any ideas?

Same thing if I completely remove the batteries from the scanner.

TIA!

What LarrySC said... My Pro-91 can be plugged into AC with no interruption but the Pro-96 will shut-down and reboot when AC adapter is plugged/un-plugged.

Glad it's started working...

The 96 and it looks like the 95 as well has a switching circuit built into it. When you apply power from the A/C adaptor it bypasses the battery mode and the radio tries to restart. In reallity it is not shutting all the way down but it does power down the display.

For best results, turn off the radio prior to pluging in the A/C adaptor. I would suggest the same if you are using the D/C adaptor in the car.........

To power down or not?...........

Good topic, I use both my 96 and 97 in my car all the time, both plugged into a two way splitter from a 9volt power port plug-in adapter. The power port is ignition switched and powers down when the car is shut off, causing both radios to power down. Upon startup both radios power back up (along with a 2067 thats hard wired to fuse box). My question is will this have any detrimental effect to any of the radios? I know we have all heard many times that we should shut these and other devices off prior to killing the power supply, but is it really better? How much different can it be than shutting them off with the volume knob? I am doing this with two different late model vehicles with good healthy electrical systems and have not seen any issues with the radios over time. (96=1.5 yrs, 2067=1 yr, 97=7mos along with several cell phones over the years). Am I being lazy/foolish/lucky or is this really a non-issue? Has anyone ever seen any problems deffinitivly linked to powering them on/off with the ignition? I have seen others post that it is a no-no, but I am curious as to wether it is just a good practice or if it is a required practice?
I am actually so lazy that this is an issue for me to worry about...............
