PRO-95 Help getting front assembly off

I need instructions on how to get behind the front assembly of a PRO-95.

The other day when it was raining I think a drop of rain some how made it into the display area of the scanner because it looks like something is on the other side of the display either just on the other side of the cover, or a smudge on the LCD itself. I took the back cover off and didn't readily find any easy path into the front of the scanner.

Does anyone know how to properly take the front part off so I can get to the LCD?

If it's like GRE's other designs, you don't - you remove the radio from the front half of the case, piece by piece.

Microwave it on HIGH for 30 minutes, that will dry it out!

I would think in time, it would just evaporate. Maybe leave the battery cover off, put it in the path of a fan overnight.

A view of this may help. The connections of CN1 (item 21) on the Main board to CN201 (item 32) on the Logic board needs to be gently jiggled back and forth to separate the two boards.

Edit: You'll need to disconnect the speaker jack also (CN3).

same as fmon said...

-undo 2 screws on belt clip
-remove battery cover and battery case
-remove 4 case screws. rear back plastic slides off the front unit.
-carefully unplug the little wire at the top under your squelch control.
-carefully pull the circuit board off the front of your case... there are 2 plugs -on the volume side and one larger plug on the antenna side...careful with both sides, it should "slide" straight off
-remove teh screws holding the front circuit board to the front plastic case.
-carefully pull board off, LCD will hang freely.

to put it all back together reversce the order. easiest to hold it keypad down and let everything rest into place to put it back together. may take some time and patience to line yoru LCD backup properly, but it's actually all pretty simple once you do it once.

thanks for the help. I'm going to try that as soon as I have some free time. It's really bugging me when ever I have the lamp on and you can see this smuge or whatever it is across the display.

I don't have a 95 but but I recently swapped out the dim green LEDs in my 92 to yellow LEDs from the Radio Shack led assortment bag. I would assume that the 95 has a similar setup. It took about 2 hrs being careful and taking my time, I used a dremmel to grind the LEDs down to size to fit into the recesses on the backlight bezel. Now the backlight is the same color as my 96 and almost as bright, alot easier to see than the original green.

I would like to change the LED's in my 95 also, but I am not sure I want to even open the scanner up. I can't even remember how long I have had my 95. What size are the factory green LED's that are in the 95?

i was going to change teh color of my 95 from green to blue, but upon opening it up, the led's are the size of diodes. not worth my effort if i cant guarantee i wont break something... :roll: i'm good with a soldering iron but i dont trust myself to my toy... maybe i can try my friends first. :lol:

The LED swap wasn't really that hard, just be careful with the heat on the PCB when lifting off the originals. I lightly wedged a jewelers screwdriver under the LEDs and just tapped the iron to their leads and they popped right off. I just used the original solder pads as attachment points for small jumper wires and actually glued the ground down 5mm yellow LEDs into the recessed area on the backside of the bezel where the originals lit up into. I am now thinking about doing the same to my 2067 buy haven't cracked the case open yet.

Sounds like they are surface mount LED's. If that is the case I may give it a try. I added some surface mount resistors to a small radio control car to take the twitch out of the steering. I'll just have to get my extra eye (magnifying glass) out so I can see what I am doing.
