Just bought a PRO95 from radio shack and I have a small problem.

The TRS I'm scanning is MOT II with ASTRO and Analog. When in open mode I'm hearing all of the P25 talkgroups come up and break squelch.

Is there a firmware upgrade to resolve this? I didn't think there was anything I could do on the radio except set it to closed mode and I don't want to do that so I can capture all of the talkgroups (analog) that comes across.

So yeah, I'm checking to see if anyone has made an update to resolve this issue, I'm aware that it's probably because this radio came out before apco25 was ever really in use, BUT (and he's the odd thing) the EDACS TRS I also scan is mixed, analog and provoice and none of the provoice talkgroups ever come up, only the analog ones, so why won't it do that for the motorola???? hmmmmm....

It's not a big BIG deal to me, as I'm getting a BC396D (heh sorry guys) in the future, I just bought this because it was a good deal. It's a great little scanner, it's got really good reception ability, and I'm glad I was able to pick one up. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Nope, you are going to have to put up with it. Of course you can lock them out when they appear, but that will chew up the TG's storage. The EDACS ProVoice announces it is ProVoice on the CC, so the scanner never goes there. Although the Moto system can do that, the Pro-95 isn't rigged to ignore them. Same with encrypted stuff, you will have to hear it.

I suppose this is an incomplete system here on the DB?

On mixed systems the CC is anolog, thats why you get both tags. APCO 25 is an all digital CC system, so the 95 ignores it. I have both a 95 & 96, both are good radios, but the mixed system here is how I found out about the 95.

Well I couldn't find anywhere that I could randomly lockout talkgroup ID's when in OPEN mode. I tried. I know you can lockout frequencies in a search but it won't do that for talkgroups. I have 2 primary TRS's I monitor, with about 20 talkgroups between the two so I'm in no worry of using up precious talkgroup storage.

Regarding the mention of incomplete system here on the DB? Umm if you're refering to the ones I listen to, no both are very up to date, accurate and full of information. I happen to know the senior tech manager for the motorola radio shop which maintains the TRS. So I have lots of inside info...

The system I'm refering to FYI is Jackson County TRS in Mississippi.

I guess I'll just keep it in closed mode and manually add talkgroups as I get the urge to. But like I said I plan to be getting a 396D in the near future so it's not a big deal.

That confirms pretty much what I thought. It certainly is an analog CC, and so that makes sense. thanks.

Excuse me guys, I don't want to get picky, but there is no such thing as an analog CC. All Control Channels, by definition, are digital. The system they support may be considered as Digital or Analog or even Mixed, but the CC itself is digital. :)

Nexus, I don't have a 95 any more, but while scanning in OPEN mode and an unwanted TG appears, if you press <L/OUT> it should lock out the TG, not the Frequency. Now as I said, I no longer have a 95, but it works that way on every other GRE radio I have here (Pro-92, Pro-92B, Pro-2037, Pro-96, & Pro-2096) as well as the Unidens. :?

I tried that before I wrote my post. Doesn't work. I thought maybe since you could lockout unwanted frequencies in search mode they would be smart enough to have the same thing for talkgroup id's. Well the PRO-95 doesn't do that. At least not when just pressing L/O or even F+L/O. I can't think of any other combos to try but all those do is BEEP at me when pressing them.

Regarding the CC issue. If you go to that guy's website that has the sound files for different digital signals, you'll notice that the sound of an "ANALOG" system CC is different from an "DIGITAL" system CC. Not trying to say that the CC is analog, but the format of a mixed, or analog CC (analog meaning system) is certainly different from one that is 100% ASTRO.

Ok maybe we can get back on track. Actually this thread is dead. Question answered, I can't defeat P25 traffic in open mode on the PRO-95. Solution, BC396D :D

Actually you can lockout digital ID's by programming the ID's into the sub-banks of selected bank (up to 100 ID's) then locking them out. These are the ID's referred to in the NOTE on page 25 "In open mode". Of course, if you have 100 programmed and locked out, the only method of scanning this bank is OPEN.

The Pro-96 allows for locking out ID's (programmed or not) while scanning OPEN but the 92/93/95 requires the ID to be programmed first then locked out to bypass them during OPEN Scanning.

A common complaint about the PRO-95 (and PRO-93) in OPEN mode was that your locked-out talk group entries are ignored (except to get any alpha tags you may have entered). The manual actually says as much: "In open mode, the scanner scans signals transmitted in all systems. The scanner stops on any ID code and only uses the ID list to look up ID text tags".

However, the same page seems to have conflicting information: "In open mode, you hear all active talk groups except those you specifically exclude".

A real-world test confirms that locked-out talk groups are still received in OPEN mode: PRO-95 (v1.00) and PRO-96 (CPU 1.1) monitoring a Motorola Type-II system (City of Santa Clara, CA) in OPEN mode. ID 00016 (Police Dispatch) entered exactly once in each radio, and the ID sub-bank to which the ID belongs is "on". On the PRO-96, the ID is not locked out. On the 95, it is locked out. Both radios receive that ID all the time. On the 96 (and the 97), I can lock it out and it will not be monitored in OPEN mode.

yes, see I tried that too... I loaded a P25 talkgroup into my list and locked it out, But in open mode the scanner still stopped on activity from that locked out talkgroup.

Well, that's normal for the PRO-95. People didn't like it when the 95 was new, either (that's why RS changed the behavior in the 96).

The primary (only?) complaint was that it made searching for new talk groups difficult.

Well I'm not really complaining. I just wanted to see if anyone knew of a firmware upgrade to it, or maybe a sequence I hadn't tried yet to get it to stop hearing those talkgroups. I bought this thing not expecting much out of it but actually I've been listening on it for 3 days straight and it has really good audio reception. I'm listening to a couple of casino's TRS's one in 936mHz and the other on 852mHz. The Astro TRS isn't a big deal, I already have the main talkgroups I listen to programmed in and it's in closed mode. Oh I actually bought it so I could listen to my county's Fire services, which is EDACS.

For almost 2 years now my only other trunked scanner has been sitting in my office on a server running my online scanner, so I haven't really had much chance to just fiddle around with trunking around in my area. I had a few extra bucks and picked it up on spur of the moment friday hehe. It's working well for me. And I appreciate everyone on here trying to offer help.

I'm guessing it's usefulness is about to be gone anyhow with rebanding. There is only one VHF repeater in range I'd use it for, everything else is either EDACS or MOT II.

After "rebanding", it will still work on EDACS (assuming the frequencies are on steps the 95 likes).

You mean a web site has incorrect information? Unbelievable!

The difference between the 2 CCs is the baud rate. They're both digital. The audio channels can be digital on either one.
