PRO-95 Open/Closed Modes

Hello again,
Open mode lets you receive ALL talkgroups that are active in a trunking system. Closed mode lets you scan the system WITHOUT unidentified talk groups being scanned. If it needs to be clarified more, just ask me.

If it is identified, that means YOU programmed it in there.
Say I programmed talk-group 41488, which is my PD's talk group. It is IDENTIFIED, because I programmed it. In closed mode, the scanner will only scan the talk groups you programmed, thus eliminating unidentified talk groups.

Closed mode Duplicate ID's
I have duplicated ID's for channels I don't want to miss anything on.
Mainly City Fire dispatch.
Am I correct in assuming that this ID would get scanned more..
Is this ok to do with trunking,
or would it not make a difference?

I think the scanner scans in the order that they are programmed into the ID Bank. I THINK you are correct, I never thought of that. I will try that. Anyway, that is a good question and I think you are right!

RS Scanners (GRE Trunking at least) only find the first TG you have entered. For example, if you put TG 144 in more than one slot, and then start scanning, the first one you have programmed (and not locked out) will be the one it always reports. This is the reason it is not advisable to put more than one Moto system in a single bank (unless of course they share no TG's) as the first (for example) TG 144 will be the only one reported.
A further explanation of this is as follows: Suppose that your local PD uses TG 48 as the dispatch channel on its Moto Type II system and the local Sheriff's office has a seperate Moto Type II system which uses TG 48 as its NCIC/Info channel. If you put both systems in bank 1 and then programmed the PD Dispatch first with alpha tag "LocalPD Disp"; then you are only going to see "LocalPD Disp" reported when the SO is giving out registrations, license checks, warrent info, etc. (you know the boring stuff).

But are you saying it would still pick up the second agency but only
display it as the first agency (alpha tag)?
I am talking about programming one agency in one bank
several times.
Also any idea if this would also work, or not work on a Pro2052?

If that is what you are asking, the answer is no! In simple terms the radio works this way in trunking mode. It monitors the control channel; when the control channel announces a channel grant to a TG, the radio then checks your preprogrammed ID's to see if you have it programmed, it starts at the first one and goes upward. The first one it finds that is not locked out that matches the announced TG from the channel grant is what it stops on. If you are in OPEN mode, of course it does the same thing, but if you don't have the TG programmed, it just displays the TG ID. So there is no advantage to putting the TG in the radio more than once as it will only find the first one anyway. There may even be (but I am not sure of this) a disadvantage, in that the more you have the radio check, the longer it takes to check them all so in case it was something you weren't interested in, it will take longer to get back to monitoring the CC for valid info.

Looks like with trunknig a lot of the rules have changed!

Also if you try to put the same talk group ID in the same bank, most scanners will tell you that it is a duplicate. The PRO -95 will even tell you where you previously programed the talk group if it's in the same bank.
