NO, because who knows how long it will be that your area changes its system, and when it does, they may go 700 mHz which the 96 doesn't do.

Well, only if you are in the habit of travelling with your radio.
What if you visit an area that has their Emerg. Services on a digital system? You would be limited with the Pro-95.

While you are mulling it over, keep an eye on new scanner releases by
Radio Shack. Something better may come along that you may like or the price may drop on the Pro-96, making it an attractive and affordable purchase.

In the meantime, enjoy what you have!

Another point to consider is the usage of CTCSS or DCS codes in the area. Since the 95 doesn't support them, this might be a factor.

I live is so cal in San Bernadino county.
I reviewed (quickly and not in depth) the database entries for San Bernadino County and it appears that there are quite a number of frequencies (especially in the fire freqs) which seem to be duplicated. Although no tones are listed, my suspicion is that tones are used to seperate the channels/groups. As to whether this is okay or not is something you will have to decide. Also maybe asking in the California forum might get you more local advice. There sure are a lot of Moto Smartnet systems covering the county. I wonder why they were not tied together into a Smartzone system?
