Is it possible to scan between 1030 and 1249 MHz using the PRO-95?

I used Mr. Star's program and I have banks set-up including:
824
869
960
1239

At 1239, when I scan down, it doesn't do a darn thing. When I scan up from 960, all goes well until around 1029MHz, where the unit gets slow. At 1029.69735, it stops entirely.

If I hit PAUSE, I can step through the rest of the freq, but I'm not sure if it's actually scanning or not.

Even if I remove the antenna, and max the SQL, still nothing. Changing the MODE doesn't work either.

-----------------------------------

Question #2

(I'm new at all this, if you haven't guessed)

Using WIN-95 (not 96 please)

Can I assign a name to the banks?

It would be nice to label them, Law Enforcent, Work, CB/FAMily, Audio, etc.

When I click in the box, It won't let me type.

Possibly mess with the attributes of the software, itself?

----------------------
Question #3

Can I re-program the sub-banks?

For instance, I don't really need the Marine, and the Aircraft bank is too wide a range to do me any good.

I'd like to use that real-estate for my own stuff.

No, I don't believe it is possible. The sensitivity in that region would be basically zilch anyway. Besides, the only thing in that region that I am aware of is Avation Navaids and some Satellite downlink stuff. Mil/Gov stuff? Not sure, although anything else in that spectrum would need to be VERY low power to avoid interference with the Aero-Nav. Unless you were really close I doubt you would be able to pick anything ups at all.

If you are talking about the Search Banks, then the answer is no. If you are talking about the Channel Banks (000-999), then yes you can change the names. Win95 defaults to the Insert mode for text entry. Even if there doesn't appear to be any text in the Bank "Name" field, it is padded out with spaces it appears. There are 12 character slots available. Try hitting backspace or delete several times and see if you can type anything new in there then.

Nope, the Search Banks are hard coded as far as I can tell. Geez, you've got a thousand channels to play with and a REALLY COOL program to reprogram them with in the space of a minute or two. Import a spreadsheet into the programming with channel spacing for the band you want to search and spead the search over several banks. Kind of a long way around it, but will work.

The Limit Search will allow you to do basically the same thing though. Just change your upper and lower limits to closer values and scan thu that until you find something interesting. Win95 even has a "lockouts" list to allow you to bypass all the "birdies" (false signals caused by either internal or external interference from the scanner) or to just pass over those annoying signals that you really don't care about (I'm sorry, I really don't care how many Whoppers Burger King sells today... ) With time you will also be able to tell when you are picking up an "image" frequency (reception of a false signal that is caused by the IF and mixer stages of the scanner. These are real signals, just the frequency is wrong because of the 12.75 Mhz IF stage or or a 455 Khz 2nd IF or such is reflecting a false image back into the radio)

Hope this helps and enjoy.... I got bitten by the "scanning bug" while still in high school and have enjoyed my addiction ever since. It's probably what pushed me into Law Enforcement in the first place..... <k>

Since the radio was not orginally intened for those freqs YMWV. I would guess that is about all you can wring out of it ..

Can I assign a name to the banks?
I am pretty sure that alpha tags can only be assigned to channels.

Can I re-program the sub-banks?
On Don Starr's website he says:
.. can only be used in programmed channels ..
And if you notice, you cannot edit the frequencies in those banks.

'ppreciate the help.

Oh, I'm bothered that there aren't tons of goodies above 1K.

I changed the WIN95 bank names. There were already spaces in the blocks, and that threw me.

I had not taken the time to realize the potential of WIN95. I can have tons of P95 files and just upload them when I'm ready!

This being waaay to much of a realization for one day, I'm gonna veg in front of the tube.

Assign Bank Name via Keypad

FYI, if you're "in the field" without Win95, you can change the text on a bank by going to the bank you want, hitting PGM, then FUNC 7.

When you attempt to tune above 1030 MHz, you're in "no-mans-land" between the RF sections that are capable of tuning 806-960 and 1240-1300. The circuitry is simply unable to respond to the microcontroller's instructions. The scanner chugs along as you reach the "real" limits of what the RF circuits can do until it stops.

I saw a "scare" post on another thread a while back that claimed you would damage the radio by doing this over and over again. That is complete misinformation through ignorance. The RF circuits do not burn out or blow up. Each tuning section is basically driven by an input voltage, from a minimum to a maximum, to "slide" the tuner from one end of a frequency range to another. If the microcontroller tells the D/A converters to produce voltages below or above what exists within the receiver, nothing bad happens. The radio just doesn't do it.

Keypad Goodies

That goodie was actually buried deep within the lovely, disorganized owners manual. A few others that are useful to either commit to memory, or print in 6-point typeface and tape to the back of the scanner...

1. Open or close a trunked bank -- Go to the desired bank, hit PGM, then FUNC 5

2. Enable/disable an ID sub-bank within a trunk -- Go to the desired bank, hit PGM, TRUNK (goes to ID programming mode), scroll up or down to the desired sub-bank, then FUNC 1

3. Change a trunk bank to show IDs in Decimal or AFS format -- same as #2 except FUNC 2

4. Delete all IDs for a trunk bank -- same as #2 except FUNC 6

5. Set ID delay for a trunk bank -- same as #2 except FUNC DELAY

6. Delete a single ID -- same as #2, scroll to the ID to delete, then FUNC CL

7. Change the trunking mode for a trunked bank -- same as #2, but just hit MODE to cycle through MOT/ED/None

Can't think of any more. I believe all of these are scattered throughout the manual like nuggets of gold in a creek.
