Has anyone had this problem with the PRO 95?

About 2/3 of the way through the standard life of Alkaline batteries, the scanner starts shutting off whenever manually selecting a channel.

I can search through bands and weather and even stop on a trunk group ID with no problem. The minute I go back to a bank with conventional frequencies, it will scan fine, but when I hit the "manual" button, it displays for the channel for about 5 seconds and the display goes blank. I never saw a "battery low" indicator or heard the beeps. This is consistent and can be repeated.

I took the scanner back to RS and got a replacement because I thought this couldn't be right. The replacement scanner will do the same with my same 80% used Alkalines. New batteries will not exhibit this problem which would lead someone to think it purely the batteries. If this is the case, then why can I hit the WX button and have it play the weather for an extended period of time. -Strange-

I have programmed it with Win95 and have simply used it with Alkaline batteries. I thought it may have been something funny with my .p95 file, but I don't know if any "shutdown on Manual selection while skipping batt low" type feature.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I've never had that problem. Are you using cheapo batteries? I would suggest you get some good NiMH batteries. I get between 16 & 20 hours on a charge, and mine are only 2000 mAh. The 95 does shut down very soon after the low batt warning.

I get about 2 beeeps with my Pro-95 with 2000 mAH NiMH batteries. I think thats enough for me to get em changed with charged ones. After it beeps, it stays on but the screen isnt on, just that noise it makes when its turned on.
