My Pro 95 has a volume issue. At the lowest possible volume, the scanner is still very loud. It wasnt always that way, it just recently started. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If it's still under warranty (or you have a TSP [I think that's what RS calls their repair plan]), bring it in for repair.

If not:

Can you control the volume at all, or does it stay the same regardless of where you put the volume control?

If it stays the same, the most likely cause is that the ground end of the volume control is no longer grounded. This could be a bad solder joint, a broken land or a bad control.

If you can vary the volume there's something else wrong, and it's probably too complicated to troubleshoot like this.

The volume control still does control the volume. The problem is the point just after turning the scanner on is very loud. To turn it up makes it even more loud, but there is just no turning it down (past a certain point). It does not happen all the time I have noticed, but it happens more often than not.

I am going to take it apart and resolder everything...hopefully that does the trick!

Good luck, but it sounds like a defective volume control, unless there's a high-resistance open at the ground end. (Is there a resistor between the low end and ground? Did it overheat and increase in value? Or is there a high-resistance joint in there? Something is preventing the wiper from going all the way to ground.)
