Hi. I just got a Pro 95, and have programmed it successfully. When listening to 800 Mhz traffic, I get 'white noise' either between the original transmission and reply, or after the reply. Even full squelch doesn't kill the noise. I even tried global attenuation, but it did not help either.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? The noise is kind of like a combo between a squeal and a buzz. I have to press 'scan' to make it go away and continue scanning.

I am new to the forum, but have already found a ton of useful info here! Thanks for any help someone might have.

Assuming you're listening to a trunked system (it helps to let us know what system you're listening to), you don't have the control channels properly programmed or the bank of frequencies are not set for the type of trunk system. Make sure the bank is set for the type of system you're listening to (Motorola, EDACS, etc.) and each channel is also properly set for the system type. If you're listening to an EDACS system, make sure that the frequencies start at channel xx1, not xx0, and that you have them in the correct logical channel number order or it won't trunk track. For most Motorola systems, you only have to have the correct control channels programmed, not every channel in the system.

Without knowing more about what you're trying to monitor, it's hard to give more specific advice.

Pro 95, White Noise

Sar, thanks for replying so fast. The problem occurs on 1 Motorola, and the rest are EDACS. I used Win95 to program it, using a P95 file from a friend. Looking in Win95, the EDACS banks do start with 001, not 000 as you suggested.

The first thing I'd suggest is that you check that P95 file with information in the RR database here to make sure it's correct. Do you hear this nosie on all trunk systems or just one? Which trunk systems are these, exactly? Generally, you shouldn't hear any type of noise between transmissions so something's not programmed correctly.

Also make sure you have the "right" squelch settings for you.. In other words make sure you have it set not too tightly.... this can very for everyone's area... especially on a trunking system... Also look at the trunk rescan delay settings in the p95 file....

Sounds like your describing squelch tail...
Normal if thats what it is.
Doesn't sound like it to me from his initial description. You don't have to hit <SCAN> to make sqelch tail's go away.

I am with milf on this one, check both scan id delay and make sure that you have the delay on each frequency (in trunking frequencies) turned off.

For EDACS on a PRO-92, which is probably not too different from the PRO-95, the first part of the first timeout beep at the end of transmission gets in before the radio audio cuts off. It makes a sort of short "clank" sound. If this is what you mean, I don't think there's a way around it. I wouldn't call it white noise though.
