Here, there, everywhere.
Can someone with a Pro-95 in a VHF Trunk zone check this out for me...

I programmed 2 vhf trunking frequencies into my pro-95 using Don Starr's Win95.

Now, as most know, the 95 is a dual trunking scanner. 800 and UHF only from the keypad. It won't allow you to designate VHF freq's as Motorola type channels.

I used Win95 to set the frequencies and bank to Motorola and programmed the UHF-Lo Offset using the 141.015, 380, 15.0 settings, seeing as the channels I programmed are in the 142mhz region, and the scanner ACCEPTED the settings.

Now, the only question is, will the Pro-95 recognize AND follow a VHF trunk system using the workaround I listed above.

Since I don't live near any VHF trunked sites (I was test progging for a possible trip to Southern Ontario), can someone please try this? I will attach my p95 file for testing.

Thank you,
JayEmbee

I took a look at the file and see you are trying to do the OPP.

Now, I don't know if the upload to the Pro-95 actually set anything since I got rid of my 95 long ago (the only scanner I ever got rid of), but take a look at this thread (read the whole thing, it is short.)
http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=658

Please remember that is a thread that is two years old, so take the list of scanners at the bottom with that in mind.

Programming the 95

Honestly ,
I owned the Pro 95,
and Currently OWN the Pro 97
LEt me tell ya lol
Programming by hand is soo much better and more accurate!
Tedious, and a little time consuming BUUT worth the time.
If yu need any advice
just ask
Crista

Also keep in mind the software doesn't neccasirily have all the features the Unit itself has.
So basically you MAYBE selling yourself short by merely using the software and not manually

Also the Pro 95 has YAHOO group you can check with them as well their Archives.

While I agree that programming by hand is beneficial because you get the practice, I don't think it is "better" nor "more accurate".

Assuming you are using the WinXX software by Starrsoft, the statement above is absolutely false. There are things that can be done with the software that cannot be done on the unit itself.

WIn 95...

Ive them before and found it more tedious...
with hand you learn more about the scanners ability whearas the software is made for a "Quick get by"
Don't get me wrong I think it helps buut I'm not into spending money if I'm not going to use it..
Now I am (if all goes as planned) lol pik up my BCD396T May the 1st
and There softwre IWill defntly NEED...
NOt just because it's free but the setup is different.
Mainly in the fact that The Radioshack Pro models have "banks"
whereas the BCD396T has "Dynamic Allocated Channells"...
and of course many other features I have yet too experience.
And yes I have the Win 95 Software as it's free buut I no longer have a 95 scanner
I have the Pro 97.
Even so I would prefer by hand..
BUt you bottom lin whatever works for you then do it
It like whole MAc vereses PC
I prefer PC"s
I hate MAcs
BUt thats' my preference due to better experinces wth the PC.
However, some " Mac Heads" think they are better..
BUt time and time again that has proven too be false.
Every mac owner I've talked to and it been a lot can NOT Code
Program
Fix hardware etc
I can
I aint a Paid Pro but I can

you ask them WHy they bought a MAc
Thier reply ITs easier
Well so are IBM's LO
Cheaper too.
But thtats the point whats you application?
FInd it and apply it!
So anyways thats my spiil
I hope all is well on your end
Crista

PS
I belive you can copy from a website the paste without the sofware having a Webcapture Feature like The Arcxxx does
Its worth a shot right??? LOL

Crista,

Let me make a comment about your posting style before I get to a response. It is a pain to read. Since that is off my chest, I will get to the topic.

First the software for your old Pro-95 is freeware as you pointed out. Doesn't cost anything. Yes the cable costs but then if you want to be able to save your setup, in case you screw up your hand programming or the scanner locks up and requires a reset, you need the cable and software anyway. And that same cable can be used on your Pro-97. Now what about the functions that you can't change by hand, you didn't address them in your comment.

As for the BCD396T, I have one and actually I find it is easier to program by hand than the current crop of GRE scanners. Much easier to understand also, but since you can stuff so much into it, I also use software for it. Whereas on my Pro-96 I seldom change anything on the fly, I am always changing something on the BCD396T and then later saving that to the computer. Of course the software I use for the 396 is also free and since I am not much into keeping my computer and radio tied together, I use the UASD software from Uniden which serves my purposes quite well (although I did try the ARC396 software and found it okay.)

In any case, I am a firm believer that the modest price the software costs (at least from Starrsoft) is well worth the price. Especially since Don is so great a resource to the scanner community.

TYping and software...

Hello thank you for your comment I am disabled and therefore do the best I can as far as typing....
and ten I don't have much ime to type as I go online via my laptop wnd wifi at local cafe's
so I am usually somewhat rushed ..

So I actually agree lLOL
Soo please have patience with me lol
anyhow, yes I considred puchasing the win 97 for my Pro 97..
But I live on a fixed income and I despise Radioshack due too past experinces
Although Their HEdaquarters are ok and I love My Pro(7 and previous scanne II've bough via radioshack.
Buuut I won't even buy a cable from them..
What good is software without cable riiiight.. lol
Now as far as the Bcd396T I won't get mine until next monday so I can't say either way yet..
I hope that the manual way of programming works for me as well as has you...LOL
BUt I plan to get the Arc396 softaware for recording
and logging TGIDS's etc..
.Anyways
Happy scanning
Regards,
Crista

Well okay on your typing from the cafe.

As for the Radio Shack problem. Plenty of people don't shop there, that is not a problem, but since you have the Pro-97, don't let that stop you from getting a cable. My cable came from Purple Computing (the inventor and patent holder of the cable). You can also get them on e-bay.

And yes, for logging, etc., you are better served with the ARC396 software.

Happy scanning.

Win97/95 etc

I know I might get one from a Radioshack outside my city..
People here in this city are weird in general soo
anyhow I dont' use Ebay cause no credit card, fraud etc...
Just my slight paranoia LOL

Later on this year I will probaly get the win97 and cable the same day/s
BUt my priority now is the BCD396T
I plan to pick it up next week (Monday May 1st)

I've heard nothing but GOOD things about Donn Starr
So I wouldn't mind buying from him
But thats on the back burner for now...
Regards
ANd always
Not just happy, but clear scanning as well,
Crista
