The purpose of this thread will be to list systems affected
by the PRO-96 TG "48xxx" bug. First, a little backround.

The CPU upgrades for the PRO-96 fix the two known bugs:

V1.1 is the original version.
V1.2 fixes the TG lockout (above CH 4-08 ) bug.
V1.3 fixes the 48xxx TG reception problem.
(47872, 47888, 47904, 47920, 47936, 47952, 47968, 47984,
48000, 48016, 48032, 48048, 48064, 48080, 48096, 48112)

ADDITION :!: : TG 48144 is reported to have the problem on the Winnipeg system.

Note that the TG problem only affects ANALOG TGs, not digital.

Systems affected by the 48xxx TG bug:

There are several threads that discuss how to get the upgrade. Here is one good one that's been at the top of the forums for quite a while:
http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=12029

Also, I'm not sure if it's mentioned there, but Fort Worth has run out of CPUs and they are on backorder, so you may want to wait to get the upgrade until they get some in.

:?: :?: :?:

Someone reported that there is a system in IN that has the bug. I think the original source may have been RS, but that's all the info I heard about it (just the state). I don't see anything in the RR database with a casual browse of major systems.

You can add this system with those listed talkgroups to the CONFIRMED list. I have heard them several times.

So I will have to pay for a new scanner full price if i want to upgrade to 1.3? :?:

Don,

Just wait a couple of months, if you really need the very latest version of CPU, and you are affected by the list of tg's then send in your scanner to have the upgrade done. By then they should have a new batch of CPU'S in stock to do the upgrade

Until then, as suggested in another post enjoy your new scanner, get to know it and learn all you can about it and the Win96 program,

Randy

Don,

With all due respect, did you read the thread I posted above? Where did you get the idea that the only way to get 1.3 is to buy a new scanner? The answers are spelled out in that thread. It may take a while, but PLEASE do us all a favor and read it. You will learn how to get the upgrade for free. (even though you are on the 'wrong' side of OH)

Joe M.

P.S. You won't be disappointed with Win96. :D

Boise has this problem also

Here in Boise, The City TRS uses an affected talkgroup. I can confirm 48000 is used by the Communications Dept.

Franklin Township, NJ, uses talkgroups in that region.

48016 = unknown usage, unknown modulation
48048 = Police Dispatch (digital/encrypted so far)
48080 & several others higher = Police Tac (digital/encrypted so far)

This system is very new (police moved on 7/1/04, no other users yet). I know that the bug doesn't affect digital modulation, but I'm concerned that there may be other talkgroups planned for that region (the affected region) which are analog. My 96 is in for repair now because my warranty will expire soon and I can't wait for the system to be fully loaded and sorted out.

I've listed it as a 'not affected' system since thus far it is not affected. I don't want to get into listing potential systems since nearly all are potentially at risk. If you find any analog TGs, please post a note so the list can be appropriately revised.

I regularly monitor Oakland CA and can't say that I've seen this bug so far. The four freqencies listed get very little use though so I'll have to pay attention and see if this is really a problem with Oakland.
