Has anybody had any trouble programming the Pro 96 using the Radio Shack 20-289 cable.

I saw on starsoft that there might be issues using this cable account Pro 96 uses 3.3V on PC/IF instead of 5v. See link below.

Is the 20-289 the same cable that is available on

I have been using the RS cable on my Pro 95 with no trouble and am getting my Pro 96 next week. Just wanted to know if I needed to get a different cable.

Thanks

I have used it with no problem since the 96 first came out. Yes it is the same cable from GRE. I just got a spare from then and saved like $10.00 over RS. It is the same cable, just not the RS box.

I have a problem with downloading and uploading. It often only makes it halfway through the data transfer and quites. I have to do it 4 times or more to get it to fully go through. Not sure if this is a cable problem or computer problem. Friend said she had the same problem, so she got a cable from a different manufacturer and the problem went away. I am using the RS cable.

Yeah, those cables that are made cheaply can cause problems like being able to download, but not upload. Always get cables from a major trusted company like RS or a two-way radio store. :D

I have the RS cable...that's the one causing the problems.

Try a different PC if you can. Some PCs have really lousy serial port specs.

I've been using the 289 for over 18 months with no issues. The last several months I've been using one continuously 24/7/365 (well, I haven't reached the 365 yet).

What is PRO96COM????

It's like a 9600 Trunker for a PRO-(20)96.
