pro-96 antenna

I have a question on my antenna, how do I know if it is working. The reason I ask is, during the day I take my scanner to work with me which is downtown and the scanner works great. I take it home at night and when I am in my basement the scanner doesn't pick up much of anything. Would this be an antenna issue? Just wondering as this is my 3rd PRO-96 and the others didn't seem to be like this.

So your other Pro-96's worked perfect in the basement ?

Assuming your using the same antenna at home and work
Its not possible that the antenna works in the daytime, and "dies" mysteriously at night

Its more possible that the signal is not strong in your basement (underground lots of thick concrete walls etc)... and the antenna just isnt powerful enough to get the signal.

Look to getting a better antenna, possibly an outdoor antenna to monitor in the basement.

was just looking on scannermaster at antenna's. I have the stock antenna, what would be a better antenna. I see one listed as a 800Mhz antenna. Is that one better?

Is that an outdoor antenna?
Note if its an outdoor antenna you will need a mast/wiring/cable etc etc

800mhz antenna will help if the systems you want are in the 800 mhz area.
If its just a handheld replacement antenna then you just stick it on the scanner (the Radio Shack 800mhz antenna does wonders for most people)

Note if your basement is a really poor area for reception it may not help that much.
But worth a try before buying a $100+ antenna etc etc


In general almost ANY antenna is better then the stock antenna.

Okay thanks, in Canada where there is no Radio shack so I will try one from scannermaster.
