Hey Everyone,

I was hoping that someone could help me here. I am trying to figure out how to copy one bank into another. I would like to copy all the freq's and ID's from one bank into another bank and with the "PASTED" info that is going into the new bank, I want to lockout a few of the ID's that were from the bank that I copied from. Basically I want to same info from the original bank into the new bank but I want to lockout a few of the ID's. I am trying to eliminate typing all the frequencies and ID's again. I USED TO know how to do this but it slipped my brain. I DID try the EDIT, COPY BANK function. BUT, it isn't carrying the info over to the new bank.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Based on this I assume you are using Win96 software, if that is the case you should see (and verify) that the copy has taken place before you press the <Done> button on the Bank Editor Dialog box.

  • 1. In the Bank Editor Dialog box, make sure highlight the bank to copy.
    2. When you press the <Copy> button and the "Copy to Bank..." diaglog box shows up, make sure you indicate the bank to copy to and make sure that all the boxes (on the right) are checked.
    3. When you press <OK> on the "Copy to Bank..." dialog box, you return to the Bank Editor window and you should see the title of the copied bank in the new bank you selected.
    4. Press <Done> and that should be it.
Hope this helps.

If you're using Win96, you have to open a SECOND COPY of the file (don't worry - it will do it). THEN, you can use Copy Bank to copy to the desired bank. Win96 will not copy a bank within the same file (for whatever reason).

Joe, not only is this not necessary, it is impossible to do what you say. Yes, you can open a second copy of the file, but the Bank Editor will not allow you to address two files without closing the Bank Editor screen. Making your instruction a task that cannot be accomplished. Now I am currently using version 1.30 and I see that I need to upgrade, but I am sure I don't remember any version working as you descirbe. :?

When you go to use the COPY BANK command (under the EDIT menu) and you ONLY HAVE ONE file open, the COPY BANK command is GREYED OUT. It is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to use it - at least under the current release version of the software (V1.35). The ONLY way to use it is to do as I said. When you have two or more files open, and you select the COPY BANK command, you are presented with a list of files to COPY BANK TO. ONLY the other files are available in the list, NOT the one you started (copied) from. You also select the bank to copy into after you select the file.

REPEAT - this is using the COPY BANK COMMAND, NOT the Bank Editor. It is the COPY BANK command that is the subject of this thread, as stated by the original poster, and it is the COPY BANK command I am talking about.

Easy Joe......smile brother! Take a deep breath.... breathe in...... breathe out..... ahhhhhh....

Now, for a little clarification on Win96.

If you wish to copy a bank from one bank to another within the same file, this is how you do it. First open the file you want to copy data from, and then:

1. Select Edit-> Bank Editor from the menu.
2. Highlight the bank you want to copy.
3. Click the Copy.. button
4. Select the bank to copy the selected bank to.
5. Click OK to copy the bank.

If you wish to copy a bank from one bank to another in a different file then you open both files (source and destination) and select Copy Bank while in the source file. You can then copy the data to the selected bank in the destination file as you described.

OK, hope that clears it up for everyone. :D

Joe is correct. Directly from the Win96 help file:

Copy Bank:This item starts the Copy Bank function, in which you can copy the current bank from the current P96 file to any destination bank in any other open P96 file. (This function is disabled if you have only one file open or are not on the “Channels” page). After selecting this menu item, you will be presented with a window prompting you for the target P96 file and bank. This is where the currently viewed bank data will be copied. This function is also available by pressing CTRL+ALT+B.

Thanks. Now I'm lightheaded.

Seriously, I was just adding the caps for emphasis. Yes, you can copy-n-paste the data, too (which is what I do most often). I was responding to the specific use of the Copy Bank command and why it would not seem to work for the original poster.

No Joe is not correct. Lou and later AZ are correct and so am I for that matter.

This statement is clear what the originator wanted, and was correctly answered by Lou.

This is Joe's follow up to Lou.

No you don’t
Joe's and now SAR2401's procedure is for copying one bank from one .p96 file to a bank in another .p96 file. Which is not what wirelesscop ask for.

It did for me.
And will for wirelesscop if he follows the suggestions made by Lou.

I think Lou interpreted this as wirelesscop was using the wrong menu, and suggested Bank Editor Dialog box in step 1 above. I interpreted the same, apparently Joe and SAR2401 do not.

Oh man, Joe may be light headed, but I am dizzy.

To be perfecly honest, going back and re-reading the original question, I will admit that Joe is right if in fact you were trying to copy a bank to a differnt file. However, it seemed to me what the original poster wanted to do was to have the same information in two banks in the same file, hence my reply.

Joe, I must say I am sorry, when I said that you were wrong, I was focused on doing everything in one file. Had I followed Lindsay's advice on thinking before pressing <Submit> I might have seen what you were saying. Sorry for hitting the igniter so fast.

Now for the rest of the truth. Wirelesscopy ALSO wrote:

I gave instructions of how TO make it work. The ONLY way to make that function work. It WILL work as long as you open a second copy of the file. Then, the COPY BANK command will exactly duplicate all settings of one bank into another.

SAR2401 quoted the help file for the software in question CONFIRMING what I said.

If you want to argue that we are not correct, take it up with Don Starr, as his help file is obviously flawed, but when I only have one file open, my COPY BANK function IS GRAYED OUT.

I admitted earlier that doing a copy-n-paste will also work (but won't copy ALL of the bank settings) and is what I use most often. But, that's not using the COPY BANK function.

But wirelesscop was trying to do this
"I would like to copy all the freq's and ID's from one bank into another bank and with the "PASTED" info that is going into the new bank,"
by doing this
"I DID try the EDIT, COPY BANK function. BUT, it isn't carrying the info over to the new bank.
The second quote as you call "the rest of the truth" does nothing for the first quote, because Bank Editor feature is the solution, which is also addressed nicely in Win96. And nicely offered by Lou. Read the original message however you may, nothing suggest building a new file, only two similar banks.

A system with 200 TG's would dictate such an arrangement. Or a method for quickly shutting down certain TG's in a system could be resolved by running the system in two or more banks with different TG's in each, then monitor TG's by toggling banks.

OK, I read the original poster's question again. It sounds to me like he wants to copy banks within the same file. If so then Edit -> Bank Editor is the way to go.

I just used that command to copy bank 3 of my P96 file into banks 0, 1 and 2. I did not need an additional instance of my P96 file open to do this.

Try it! It works. I don't understand why others are saying it doesn't. Am I missing something here?

You're absolutely right. The COPY BANK command is the wrong one to use for copying a bank.
