Is the Pro-96 capable of monitoring BHM. Public-Safety TRS? :?:
From what I have read here and have been told by Radio Shack it is
but before I spend $500.00 or so I wanted to be sure!

:D

In a message on bc785 / Birmigham that precedes your post, their is a question regarding a Uniden 785D capable of trunking 3600 baud. That is a first generation digital capable scanner.

One of the folks in that series of answers states that Birmingham's system is a mixed mode 3600 baud system.

The Pro96 will support 3600 and 9600 baud systems (hence the model number Pro96). Your Pro96 along with Uniden's 796D and 296D are all the latest generation of digital scanners.

The Pro96 can handle Birmingham just fine.

Good luck and enjoy!

:)
Best Regards,
Julian

I use my PRO-96 to monitor Birmingham occasionally... I can hear them from Cottondale in Tuscaloosa county! That's a pretty good trip for a trunked system!

Try the 800Mhz "rubber-duck" antenna Radio-Shack sales. It's a BIG improvement on the stock antenna. Also improves UHF reception but seriously cuts VHF. Guess everything is a trade-off! :)

There have been questions by some of us about Birmingham's baud rate on their new system.

When you were monitoring them recently, was it 3600 or 9600?

Thanks for your post.

Julian

ps.....I used to live there in Anniston....early to mid-80's

when I checked the control channel percentage it showed 3600 baud rate. I have never saw it as 9600.

birmingham public saftey

:D :D :D :D

i hope this post helps all of yall out about the birmingham system:

the system is a 3600 mixed mode system
capable of both digital and analog transmissions
the site has four sites
1.channel 13 tv tower on red mt
2.shannon road on a commerical radio tower(southwest birmingham)
3. near medical center east hosp.(eastern area)
4. birmingham city hall (master site)

the Trunk Type is Motorola 2, 800 MHz, Plan 2.

the sytem sounds great on a bc 785 scanner i have a friend who has one and he likes it i set it up for him.the only drawback he has noted is that the fire department drops out occas. even in downtown birmingham
we can not figure out why he says the police stay constant
