Over the last few months my PRO-96 has been picking up all the radio traffic for Cobb, but it comes in so garbled I can only understand 1 word in 50. I've tried reprogramming it but it hasn't worked. Anyone have any ideas?

Couple of questions: What kind of antenna are you using? Does the garbled transmissions happen at home, mobile? One of the reasons GRE changed from the 96 to the 106/500, was to get away from the scanner not decoding the signal good enough. Listening to my 106 has greatly improved:) Cobb's system does not scan well, even in Cobb. You may want to try less antenna.

I'm using the 800 MHz antenna. When I go out for a walk at night I take my 96 with me. For some reason FD and EMS have always come in very crappy. PD would always come in great. Up until a few months ago, I would use a 1 inch racing antenna for PD and it worked fine. I also have the PRO 2096 in my truck with an 800 MHz antenna on the window. That comes in great. I had both scanners running off the antenna on the window with both scanners scanning only 1 talkgroup and the 2096 picked up everything and the 96 nothing.

Welcome to trying to listen so CQPSK on a radio that cannot properly decode it. Until the scanner manufacturers' wake up and start building radios that can properly decode CQPSK modulation, which is used by multisite 800MHz systems like we have, this is what you get.

Trying different antennas, attenuators, etc may improve it but it's just how it is. It all comes down to location and signal strength being dominant from a single site to reduce to BER.

Uniden, GRE...why don't you guys get the clue and work on a unit that can properly receive CQPSK?
