Pro-96 DSP Test

Hello all. I just did the 0 then TEXT (DSP Test) on my 96 and it said "Failure". Is it suppose to say that or do I need to take it in? Thanks.

That test is used only when using proper test equipment. Try pressing "3" when the radio is booting up. That will give you the DSP version.

I remember my favorite place to eat off base was that chinese place, I believe it's called Wangs? Good town though.

There are several Chinese places now, none of them are called Wangs. Were you with MCSF? When did you leave?

Yes Sir I was, I was one of the COG's. I left Dec of '02. I loved it there and had lots of fun. Did MCSF ever get new vehicles? I think they changed over to MCSF Europe right after I left.

Not sure about the vehicles. Their Corpsmen are always in my workspace, so I'll ask them.

I got here in June 2003 (Hospital) and have had fun, but am ready to leave.

If you have your scanner there with you, you should be able to hear most of the base. I know most of the agencies on the base were in the VHF High band, but we were encrypted. I discovered that when I was workin' the graveyard shift one night, had all of the channels on our HT's, so just switched to each channel and searched for them, should've written them down but didn't think anything of it. Do they still have that drive-in on base? I know it's only been a few years but I've been out of the Corps for two years already and still can't believe it. Actually, it will be two years tomorrow.

But anyways, you should be able to hear Naval Sec. and Base FD. We worked with those guys quite a bit.

There is no encryption on base at this time. I work together with the base communications officer and have all of the frequencies that the base uses. True that VHF is use now, but the base is going to a Smartzone type trunking that will be linked to several other bases throughout Europe. We're still waiting on word from higher up to let us know who won the bid (M/A-Com or Motorola). More than likely it'll be Motorola 380-400 MHz, but I am seeing a lot of ships pulling in that are using Motorola and M/A-Com that are using 406-420 (ALL unencrypted).

That's cool. I remember when we guraded NSGA we used full encryption. But I've heard that we don't even do that anymore since we took all of Europe.
