Thanks to all who posted on how to program the PRO-96 to receive MPDC.

One more question --

I have inserted the correct base, offset, and spacing in F2

And I have set F3 to 3600 baud, table

Now I am hearing traffic on several of the scanned channels, but instead of talkgroup IDs, I am seeing ID 200-00 on all active channels.

How do I get the talkgroup IDs?

For the benefit of anyone else having this problem, the MPDC frequencies were programmed in Bank 9 after V-Scanner DC-MD-VA was loaded. Even though I erased the V-Scanner programmed frequencies, a Motorola Type I Fleet Map was still programmed in. When I reprogrammed the bank to Type II the MPDC talkgroups immediately popped up.

Yes. Evidently the VA Beach System is a Type I system, or else the Virtual Scanner programmers thought it was. Anyway, when you reprogram a Virtual Scanner bank, it's not just a matter of erasing the old frequencies, inserting the trunk group codes and replacing the talk group codes there may be other embedded programming.

Hi newsboston on others with the Pro-96, does this radio do a good job of scanning and decoding the ACPO trunked systems in and around Washington D.C.? Just curious. I would like to Fairfax, Prince William, Arlington, and Montgomary county TRS.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Can see Trunked but can't hear 'em

I programmed the Pro-96 as instructed in the manual, however, I must have missed something. When scanning the channels I see the correct SYSID and talk group IDs flash, but I hear nothing but static. Its not the squelch, its in MO mode. Any suggestions?

--Thanks

You must have programmed the 460 MHz system on this page, if so you need to set the tables (FUNC 2 & 3) as mentioned in the first post by newsboston.

For newsboston: The database page list multi tables...are you able to scan the complete system with the single table? Win96 will allow setting both tables using Extended Frequency option.

Just so you know, if you use the second table everything will appear to work well, but, you will be missing some of the transmissions. You will be missing any transmissions that end up being trunked to 453.450.

So is there any way to enter the second table without using WIN96? I'm getting an error code from the program and Don Starr hasn't replied to multiple emails over the past few months...

I don't think it is possible to enter multiple tables on the P96 without programming software :( . Maybe we can hook up one day, and I can give you a hand.

Dewey

EDIT... I forgot to mention, Don Starr had released a temporary registration for those who were having problems since he had suffered a computer crash. Unfortunately, I'm not on the home PC right now so I don't have any links, but if you do a search here, or check Don's site, you may find what you need.

Thanks to you both - I'll give it a try. Unfortunately it's not a registration problem, the PRO-96 just reads "incorrect model" when trying to upload/download to the software. Worth a try anyway.

Usually Incorrect Model is indicated on the scanner display when software and radio don't match during Upload to Scanner operations (or Ctrl U) . Download (or Ctrl D) with mismatch will usually indicate looking for header on the PC but no change on scanner display.

I finally tried a different computer, upgraded my DSP & tried the temporary registration on a newly downloaded version of WIN96 & it worked. Not sure which part [or all] of what I did got it working, but I'm happy to say the least. Reception of the MPD system is significantly better as is the sensitivity of the scanner as a whole.

Now I'm just debating whether or not to send the unit back to RS for CPU upgrade [it's a first generation model]. Does anyone have experience if the CPU upgrade will make any real difference in reception of any DC area systems? My antenna connector is a little loose, so I may be sending it back for that anyway.

Glad you got it working.

1.2 firmware (CPU) has problems with Analog ID's in the upper 48xxx range. None are listed in the DC system nor the immediate VA & MD counties joining DC, so you likely don't need it. If you do send it in, it'll get CPU 1.4 which is the same as the earlier 1.3 CPU fixing the tg problem. The cost will be about 50 bucks.

and to put a ribbon on the programming question - the item about having to get to the Extended table to put in the 2 offsets for the DC system has been repeated so many times, someone had posted the Win96 screen to do exactly that - and I captured it into the wiki. Look at the very bottom of this article for the screen and settings:
