I recently picked up a new PRO-96. Upon powering it up, and pressing [3], it is showing the following:

CPU: F1.4
DPS-App: F1.2
DSP-Voc: F1.0

I thought the latest CPU was 1.3?

Also, on my PRO-2096 base/mobile, it's showing:

CPU: F1.1
DPS-App: F1.2
DPS-Voc: F1.0

Is that current for the PRO-2096?

Thanks!

That is the latest firmware for both. As far as the change in 1.4, I have yet to hear what it was. Too early to have anything to do with 800 MHz rebanding.

I understand it's only a 'formality change' to deal with new hardware - it's functionally the exact same as V1.3.

They changed the CPU type or something like that. It doens't have anything to do with anything the user sees.

CPU 1.4 has a mask ROM, it comes programmed from the chip maker. The program is hard coded right in the silicon.

CPU 1.3 and before have a PROM that has to be programmed at the GRE factory.

There are no other differences.

Will that have any ill effect on rebanding?

Too bad their FCC TA prevents using an EPROM or an E2PROM.

Then, they could offer a reflash.

They could. The area that needs the reflash has nothing to do with the FCC regs. The later Unidens can be flashed. (The only thing that has to be changed is the Motorola channel assignment table.)

No, they couldn't.

In the PRO-96, the device that contains the "Motorola channel assignment table" also contains the code that prohibits cellular frequencies. If they allowed a "reflash" of that device (if it was even a flash device) to accommodate the 800 MHz bandplan changes, someone could hack their update to allow cellular.

Don, they have a particular configuration that doesn't allow for a flash of the Moto tables. They could offer a configuration that allows for a flash of the tables while not allowing a flash of the cell frequencies. The claim was "Too bad their FCC TA prevents using an EPROM or an E2PROM" - the FCC only prohibits a scanner that can be reconfigured to receive cellular, not a scanner that can't be changed in any way at all - that was my only point.
