To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Has anyone noticed the Pro-96 picking up talk group IDs that are NOT logged/saved when in CLOSED mode? I'm monitoring Hamilton County, OH Public Service - C-QPSK digital and sporatically see ID NUMBERS when all my TGID banks are FULL with TEXT IDs. The numbers are NOT logged into my ID banks. Ideas?

96 glitch

Don't forget, the 96 was not designed for CQSPK and that fix was just to pick it up. I might have read in the online manual back in September about that. You should contact Rs so they can create a fix. It could also be that you might have one or two IDs that you just stored and never made tags for.

scollier - thanks, I'm aware of the upgrade and the bit of a glitch with the reception... not the question but thanks for your input :)

As far as the tags, nope, I've got all 150 id tags filled... if I tried to add a new one while in open mode, the scanner would give me a message "memory all full" if I tried to save a new one from what I've read I believe... I've checked by pushing FUNCTION/TRUNK when the rouge IDs have come up as this will tell you what TRUNK BANK the ID is stored in the way I understand... it shows me ID BANK 3 for instance... when I look through that bank, nothing of that id is in there... and after scanning all 150, that ID that comes up in CLOSED mode doesn't appear to be in memory... it hasn't been a certain ID, just randomly does it and appears to be random IDs that are not stored.... again, this happens in CLOSED mode... Any other ideas or anyone experiencing the same???.... takes a while to happen but does it randomly it seems.... I'll try to keep a closer eye on it to see if it's a certain ID but I believe it's sporatic.. only notice cause I look over and I'm hearing a Contractor or Service personel talking and it ISN'T Publc Service lingo.. worst case scenario I guess I can just L/O any sporatic IDs that show up.... still should do that though if that's the case though.... input??? thanks for those above :)

just a follow up... I have my 1st bank full for Hamilton Co., OH and I'm getting TGID 0001 I believe for FD WEST I think popping up.. It's NOT saved... I've concluded there is a glitch of some kind allowing this TG to pop up... I hit L/O and haven't seen it again.

beats me

I have no idea how it locks it out if it isn't in the TGID list, but it hasn't showed back up again... I have gone over and over my TGID list and do NOT have that id saved in that bank. Gotta be a glitch of some kind...

I have had the same thing happen, the only things programmed in mine are talkgroups that i put text tags on and nothing else.
and from time to time i have talkgroup id's pop up that arent programmed.
so i would agree it might be a glitch or they made it that way to make it easier to find new talkgroup id's.
just my $.02. Mike

Maybe this isn't really the thread to post this and I could be missing something in the instructions.

I've noticed that when I store a tone for a conventional frequency the radio seems to operate in tone squelch mode regardless of whether the bank is open or closed.

Is this normal?

Yeah, it's normal. It'll operate in PL/DPL weather it's Open, Closed, or parked manually on a channel. The only time it doesn't is in program mode...

I've had it pop up unprogrammed talkgroups for NJSP a few times as well, even in closed mode. Truthfully...doesn't really bother me because sometimes I hear some good stuff :D

I saw the same thing for the first time last night. I can't normally hear the San Francisco trunk system from where I live but we've had several days of over 100 temperatures and the thermal ducting has been doing some strange things. I only have text tagged TG's for SF and the bank is closed. I was able to hear some TG's for about a half hour last night before the system faded out and several were just numerical ID talk groups. As I understand it, that shouldn't be possible with all TG's taggged and the bank closed. The system was very weak though so I'm wondering if signal strength might not be a factor.

Signal strength IS a factor, I think. I have a problem at my work on the Ohio Statewide MARCS digital system. Sometimes, talkgroups will come up as if they're not in the ID list, even though they are...this only seems to happen when the signal is weak...
