Pro-96 problem on 500Mhz TRS

I am experiencing a problem with my pro-96 on a 500Mhz TRS, more often than not it appears that the radio locks up on a control channel and I get a loud buzzing sound. Hitting the scan key will get it past the lock up but on the next pass it will lock up again. Sometimes turing the unit off and rebooting will clear it out, sometimes not.

The radio has been professionally programmed by a very experienced person so I know that is not the problem.

Does this sound like something the folks in Texas might need to look into?

Did you make sure that you set it to the proper trunking setting that you need?

I know you said you don't think it's a programming problem, but it really sounds like one.

1. Check that frequ modulation is set correctly (MOT)

2. Check to see that base/step/offset are set correctly

3. Make sure it is set to "table." (Check the manual for "PROGRAMING UHF TRUNKING SYSTEMS")

4. Make sure bank is set to MOT.

I would bet it's one or more of the above.

Is it Motorola or EDACS system?

It is a motorola system. I have the problem regardless of where I operate the radio- car, house, walking around. It doesn't seem to matter what antenna is on it either.

None of the 800 Mhz systems are affected.

First, take it to RS and clone it to one at the store. If it does the same thing, then likely you have it programmed incorrectly.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will see if my local Radio Shack can handle that request!

I seriously doubt that it is programmed incorrectly as the guy who programmed mine has programmed many many Pro 96's and 2096's and has not had anyone else have a problem.

I will let you know how it turns out.

Even the most experienced expert is capable of making a mistake. Especially if he's manually programming the unit.

Now if he simply loaded a .P96 file into your radio that's worked on those many other 96's, then I'd agree, the chance of him making a mistake is next to nil.... but the chance of the computer or even your scanner making a mistake loading the file is just as good. One dropped bit during the upload might leave the scanner looking like it's programmed right, but not working right.

If you have the software and cable, I'd download the scanner yourself and look it over, or post it here and have one of the experts here check your expert.
