I have a question about my PRO 96. Whenever I receive a transmission on a P25 trunked system(9600) I listen to, at the end of the transmission the scanner reverts to MO conventional mode and stops like it's stuck on a birdie. This only started to happen in the last few weeks. I've had the scanner for about five months. Anyway, I looked in the manual and it doesn't show a birdie on this frequency, so I removed the antenna and it stopped. I've tried to locate and source of interference in my home and haven't found anything. I then tried my BCD 396 and didn't have this problem although it would stop on this frequency(866.6500) when searching. I suspect since the 396 specifies P25 when programming it doesn't look for a conventional frequency like the 96 does. The 96 works fine when receiving the P25 signal, it's just that it then reverts to MO and sounds like a birdie. It sounds like a distant signal, so it's probably not close, I don't know. Anyway, I've enjoyed my 96 and use it and my 396 each day. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Thanks to everyone, I really enjoy these forums and check them each day.

Do you have the latest update? P25 can be conventional and not trunked. Read FM. If you fill a bank with multiple control transmissions, could present a problem. Go to the nearest control location and lock others. Tx digital p25 conventional confused me this way. Worth a shot. Try the nearest tower only.

I'm at DSP 1.4 and CPU 1.4. I'm in a fringe area(over 20 miles) from any sites so I have to enter all towers. I don't know if they change trasmitter sites each day or not, but I pick up different sites from day to day. I guess if I could specify digital only this would solve the problem. I do wish I knew the source of the transmission. I know Safetyobc lives about 30 miles from me and monitors this same system, maybe he can shed some light on this. Thanks for the help Bandingabout. Safetyobc are you out there?

P-25

Hi,
I suddenly developed the same problem using my Pro-96. It turned out it was not a birdie or any other problem with the radio. The problem was with the agency I was listening to. They had some sort of radio problem which cause an unmodulated carrier, continuously. I could very faintly hear one of their other dispatchers (channels) in the background of this otherwise unmodulated carrier.

After approx. a week the system was fixed and everything returned to normal. My other scanners (BCD396T) would also momentarily stop on the unmodulated carrier then resume scanning so it was much less noticeable/objectionable.

I was listening to VHFhi frequency (conventional) using P-25 digital encoding.
