Hi, I broke down and bought a Pro-96 today so I could monitor the DC Police Radio. I was wondering if someone assist me with setting up my scanner to be able to listen to the MPD properly.

If there's someone in the area that can program my scanner for me, I can pay you. I am in Columbia Heights.

If not, is there some good reading on how to program the DC MPD to my Pro-96??

Thanks!

Where can I get a cable for the Pro96 to connect to my PC?

Also, would anyone in the DC area be interested in getting paid for programming my scanner for me?

Thanks,
Cameron

If I knew how to post attachments, I got exactly what you need
At bottom of this page under quick reply box click the Go Advance bar.

Under that reply box is Advance Options. Click Manage Attachments bar.

Browse to file and upload. If your file is a P96, you will need zip it or edit it to .txt after .p96.

If your PC needs a USB connection ....

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2177609

Here is a wiki article on Win96. The homepage link is easy to find, and near the bottom is a better display of the extended trunking tables needed to successfully track the DC cops

http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Win96

This app is one of many that can download data from the database directly into Win96's editor. This makes it very easy for a lot of newcomers. You will need to purchase a premium subscription (cheap) for this functionality

OK, I bought the USB cable (Radio Shack Model #20-047). I downloaded Win96.

I installed the drivers, connected the pro-96 scanner, opened Win96, clicked on "Scanner ---> Download from scanner --->" and got the message that says: Expected to read back the data we just wrote - this failed. Ensure the correct COM port us selected, a supported cable is attached to the COM port and the scanner, and the scanner is turned ON."

How can I fix this problem? What COM port? The cable I bought (RS # 20-047) is a USB cable with a 3" connector leading into the radio.

Oh and when I connect the scanner, it says on the screen, "*CLONJE MODE* UP to send, Remove Cable to Exit."

HELP!!!! PLEASE!!!!

1. Match the com port in Win96 to the same port listed in device manager.
2. Don't use the 3 inch adapter.
3. Clone mode is correct when cable is plugged into PC/IF on scanner. If you had another scanner on a patch cable, you can clone one to the other using scanner keys. However, ignore this with software. Display will work with software when you get the port problem corrected in step 1.

OK, I've got the scanner working: I downloaded a .p96 file from dc2wheel off the henney.com website.

I want to make sure I'm getting coverage of everything MPD uses. So far I've got some action on: MPD SURV 2, 1ST - 7TH DISTRICT, CMD 2-SOD, CITYWIDE, and 1D - 7D TAC.

Is this it? Or am I missing something, is there more to listen to? I live in Columbia Heights, in DC.

Thanks!!!

If you are using the old file from the CHM website for the DC MPD, you MUST add the additional offset in the trunking table. At the time that file was posted, the additional offset was not known, or even suspected. You might miss some traffic without it.

I've already shown you a couple of places where you can find out what to put in, so no need to repeat it.

You might examine the talkgroup list provided in the file against the database listing. You may want to add/subtract as your listening dictates.

OK, thanks very much. I've added the additional offset, I think....

In Win96, with the DC Metro Area.p96 file open: on the right hand column I changed the "MOT 3600 CC" AND the "MOT 9600 CC" options to "Multi Table" (I did this with both 3600 and 9600).

Then I clicked "Extended Tables" and changed #00 and 01 to "380, 380, 453.45000, 380, 12.500" and "480, 518, 460.02500, 480, 12.500"

I've updated it to my scanner, but it seems the same as it was, picking up the same channels.

Thanks soo much for helping out a beginner.

Cameron,

Your getting to the tables is correct. Both can be set to Multi table, however, only 3600 CC bullet was required.
Tables should be
Code:
# ChLo ChHi Base Offset Step
00 380 479 453.45000	380	12.500
01 480 759 460.02500	480	12.500

02 through 05 will be ignored.

Ya might give this file a try Cameron.

Bank 0 has DC Law with 114 talkgroups and DC F/EMS in bank 1 with 65 talkgroups.
Bank 9 has the metro transportation system with 53 talkgroups.

Don't know who put the info for the Wiki site, but it is incorrect.

For single table the channel range is Offset 380 which does not need the upper channel in this scanner.

However, when the system frequencies are out of channel range (380-759), the are split accordingly. Some times up to 6 tables can be used.

Your system is split at channel 480 for base freq 460.0250. The Hi ch of previous table is always 1 number less. Thus 380-479 for first table and 480 to end or 759 for second table.

The table listed at your site will only use one voice channel grant (if any) for base 453.4500 and may certainly chop off if any are assigned above channel 518 with base 460.0250.

My image will cover all 380 channels. Which includes subtracting from the end channel (759) the beginning channel (380) = 379. But if both are inclusive, the real range is 380. A quick look at the actual frequency range on the DC database page indicates 564 channels using step 12.5 which will be 184 channels short for single table setting. Thus, two tables.

Mike, this image should be used for the system in the above link. It should also replace the image at this location. http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Win96

Inauguration file for Pro-96

The original file was created by dc2wheel. I filled in any and all empty spaces with conventional fed and other freqs. It's not hugely organized, but the Fed stuff is jammed in. The new generation of scanners would be better suited for better organization. I guess I could take all the freqs I put in here, into my Pro-95 instead and carry 2 scanners. Hmmmm.

This file might drive the heavily organized scannist a bit bonkers.

I hope the security at the parade route doesn't confiscate scanners.

I'll take care of this, fmon. In the future, please note you can do this yourself. 73 Mike
