I called RS repair to check on my scanner and they said that the repairs were complete and that it is being shipped today.

I thought that the people waiting to get their units back would like to hear the good news that, apparently, the new chip arrived.

Yes this is in reference to the CPU upgrade at Ft Worth. They apparently received their batch of CPU's and have performed the switchout of them. It's been over a month that I haven't had mine and I really am glad to get it back later this week. You know, the thing I missed the most about the Pro-96 not being in my grubby hands was the V-Folder feature since I do some travelling with my job. The V-Scanner feature is a very powerfull asset for this scanner. Anyways, enough babbeling.....

Is this in reference to the CPU upgrade? If not, then whar was wrong with the unit?

Yes... I should have been more clear.

Mine has been gone since July 20th. I'm MORE than ready to get it back, too, because the city where I live just converted everything to digital. I've been going through withdrawals.

Small world... I called Radio Shack service center and was also told that my unit (sent in on 7/20) was mailed out today (8/30).

I hope they are not just "telling" us that to get us off the phone.

Mine was in for the CPU upgrade.

I'll advise by the end of the week.

i will be calling first thing tomorrow. and im not going to call the 800 number. im call Ft Worth themselves. besides, they cant tell you its sent out and it not be sent out. its lying, and you can take them to court for that (i think). anyway, i will def talk to the tech that was/is assigned my radio.

Unfortunately I called this afternoon at 5PM Eastern time and was told that “We are waiting for the upgrade from the manufacture.” I hope that just means that they have not gotten to mine yet, and not that they have already run out of the upgrade kits. I did not send mine in till 8-1-04. So maybe it is still in line.

Thanks! Did you have any problems with them, since it was purchased at Arundel Mills ?
Seeing the current wait, I think I'll wait a little until the initial rush is over before I send mine in.

other than the fact that i had to explain what the hell i wanted done to it... no problem at all. just make sure you tell them to send it to FT WORTH. they sent mine to NJ (probably the reason mine was NOT fixed with the batch of CPU's they recieved yesterday, but thats ok, they told me im next in line). anyway, any radioshack should be able to send out your radio. they didnt care that i purchased the thing at arundel mills. like i said, just make sure they send it to Ft Worth.

PS... i think they gave me trouble cause i sent mine out in the begininig of the rush, and i know i was the first/only person to ask that particular store to send it out. i think they might know what were talking about when we ask for the upgrade.

Received "Upgraded" Pro-96 back yesterday.... BUT!

I called yesterday morning to the repair center and they said it had shipped monday. Funny thing, about 20 minutes later the local store called and left me a message that it was in and ready for pickup... Cool, picked it up after work. All seemed good till this morning. I am still receiving Analog (MO) voice from other users on what are supposed to be Digital (DG) talkgroups. 1.3/1.2/1.0 is the order that comes up when doing the 3 key at power on so it is upgraded but not totally fixed.

Bummed in Arizona! :(

Well, if you're receiving analog then analog is what they're using, I guess I might not understand what you're saying....

Can you post a list of the TG's affected and what systems they are? I have a theory that I think is valid in regards to our problems out here - see my reply to icp957 on the Wish List thread.

I know what wupatki is saying - it happens alot out here. You endure a few seconds of digital buzzing noise in MO mode before the radio realizes it's a digital comm and changes to DG mode.

ooooh, OK, now I know what he means. I wonder if there's some elements in the data stream of those systems that makes the radio think at first is a control or data channel therefore it doesn't try to decode it right away or something. I know, this has been discussed many times before....

Just my $2 pesos.... ;)

The problem stems from the digital detection being automatic... if you could set the frequeny to DG instead of FM you wouldn't have this problem, but it just doesn't work that way... maybe the PRO2096 will address this issue. ;)

Maybe it's the system. I've never heard any digital noise on a digital transmission before it 'switches' to digital. In fact, I've tried and the switch to digital is almost instantaneous upon tuning to a digital frequency. CPU 1.1 and DSP 1.2 here.
