Pro 96 replacement battery holder 6-8 week wait!

Hi all!
Today I went to radio shack today to order a replacement yellow rechargeable battery holder for my Pro-96 digital scanner and they told me it's back ordered and there is a 6-8 week wait once I place the order!!

WTF radio shack, get it in gear!

Any ideas where I can find one faster? I've already been watching ebay for it and there is NEVER any listed. It's not something I have to have, I've got a battery charger. It's just a convenience issue.

I also checked on an ac adapter while I was there and they want $19.99 for it and like $5.00 for the proper end. That's just crazy.

Once Radio shack was the bomb, now it's been bombed. I don't even want to go into how long it took the employees (3) to find the battery holder in their computer. Ridiculous! The first guy actual told me That scanner was discontinued, insinuating parts were not available. Gee Wizz!

Radio shack wanted $5.99 and $2.50 shipping
The site you referred me to above wants
$5.99 and $9.25 shipping which is obscene.

From the pictures on that site when I compare the alkaline and the rechargeable battery holders it looks like I can turn the normal alkaline holder into a rechargeable battery holder pretty easily.
What do you think?

i wouldnt risk it with your only battery holder if you already have a separate battery charger

Doesn't the PRO-96 use the same battery holders as the following scanners?: PRO-93, PRO-95, PRO-97, PRO-164, PSR-300 - just to name a few. I can't believe they'd be out for ALL of those scanners.

yes they do, I have a 93, 96 & 97 they are exactly alike. I have 4 or 5 layiing here now, you can check wiith GRE they have em also. oops also I have the PRo 197 my newest edition lol

Actually I did check with GRE and they want almost $10 for shipping. That's just crazy. At least radio shack only wanted $2.50 shipping.

GRE would likely ship it the next business day, though. If I needed/wanted one "now", I'd probably pay the 16 cents per day (not counting any sales tax you might avoid on the $5.99, if you're not in California).

Yes it would be simple to do. It also would make it likely to cause someone grief in the future if they did not notice the mod and used that holder for alkaline batteries.

What if you get run over by a Mack truck before you get your yellow holder and your grieving widow sells your scanner in a rummage sale.

Don't think that will happen? There are many other ways that someone else could by chance use your booby trapped holder
