I don't remeber ever seeing a PRO-96 "service manual" available to the general public.

I've got one. It took a lot of work to find it, but I did. But this is not something I want to part with. I think if you look/search long enough on eBay (or equivalent), someone will eventually sell you one.

Sorry.

Sorry.

Would you be able to check the parts list and tell me what the values are of the following:

C9
C2
R15
R4
R14
R42

There is also a resistor between IC1 and R4 that I need, as well as the capacitor that is between IC1 and R15.

Also, might it say what IC1 is?

Thanks!

Your list is in this pdf, I'll be looking for the last resistor and cap and upload shortly.

PRO-96 parts ....

IC1 = NJM2904M
C2 = Ceramic chip capacitor 220pf 50v +/-5%
C9 = Ceramic chip capacitor 0.01uf 50v +/-10%
All resistors are metal glaze 1/16w 5%
R1 = 330 ohm
R4 = 4.7k
R14 = 33k
R15 = 47k
R42 = 100k

The component between IC1 & R4 is R1.
The component between IC1 & R15 is C9.

Good luck!

IC2 question

Looks like this forum is quite old by now, but maybe someone can help identify IC2 on the Pro-96. Looks like IC2 is the 3rd IF amp. I am working on a Pro-96 with no audio output. Keypad beep is normal loudness so I know that IC9 Audio amp is good. RX audio is very very low audio and have to place speaker right up to your ear to hear anything. Tracing it back appears IC2 may be at fault. I have a decent amount of TP4 (Pin 9 IC2) Discriminator output. Looks like there may be another IC2 audio output feeding audio to the audio amp other than Pin9 IC2 Discriminator output? Anyone have a part number on IC2?

Thanks

Jason

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8530/5.0.0.973 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Good luck on a service manual, as most manufacturers don't want to release some of their info about the 800 MHz circuitry.

Pro-96 audio problem fixed

Nothing like correcting my previous post.

Turns out the problem was not any IC chip. Did some trace work with a signal generator and oscilloscope. Problem was found to be a surface mount cap which was used to couple audio from Q10 audio pre-driver to IC9 audio amp. I did not have any surface mount caps, so a small cap was soldered in its place. It fits without problem.

Looks like this may have been a manufacture defect. There was a dot of glue (or something) under the cap and when it was placed and soldered, the stress caused by the glue bump underneath may have caused a stress fracture making a very very high resistance. There was audio flowing, but very very little. There is a lot of talk about similar problems with the scanner, but no known fixes have been posted, I bet this is the cause.

Symptom was very very low RX audio output however the keypad beep was very loud. I know that the volume pots had some problems in previous versions, but this was not the case here.

I have posted a picture of the problem cap.

I hope this helps someone out there with a similar problem in the future.

Thanks
Jason S.
