I have recently found an unid Control Channel on 903.2125. This has not shown up until today. I checked that freq. in all of Indiana and Ohio in the FCC database and came up with nada.

My question is this: When I hold on this channel my pro-96 does not display any system ID information. What would cause the pro-96 to not do this? Any Ideas?!

And yes I have it set up for trunked mode!

Hmmm, I'm not familiar with 900 Mhz but is it possibly a repeater input freq. I don't know if the 96 would differentiate between input or output when it comes to displaying the CC data. Also I think that's a cordless phone freq, so maybe it's not data :?

Ok this is very odd. The Control Channel(Data Noise I should say) has changed freq's 3(902.1125, 903.1125) times in the last 10 minutes. I am hearing traffic in conventional mode. It's an eletric company of some sorts. I'm going to do some more searching!

I'm going to capture some audio, maybee you guys will know what it is!

Was someone in your house talking on the phone when you got these hits? It's the input so whoever it was had to be close.

No we have a 2.4 phone. I am hearing them in FM mode on 903.2125 902.1125 and some others in that range talking about lines down and poles. This is what I am hearing right now on 903.1125:

That most definitely sounds like a Motorola CC.

That's what I thought. But yet when I put the scanner into MOT mode, nada, zip. It won't even display any system info. Could I be hearing some sort of reflection? This is blowing my mind!

It's possible it's an image of some kind. The Pro 96 does have some image issues, but they are most notable in the 700Mhz ranges.

Are you searching and on HOLD mode, or are you really on Manual mode? I'm pretty sure the '96 does not display the data when on HOLD mode - only Manual.

You are receiving an image from somewhere, as that is not a valid SMR frequency in the USA. The image is likely coming from 851-869 MHz, or 935-937 MHz area. I say 'area' because I don't recall the exact range of 900 MHz SMRs offhand.

Uhhh... think about what you said a minute. If it were an INPUT frequency, you would not hear a control channel there. Mobiles/portables on the inputs only transmit short data bursts. No, the '96 cannot read those bursts.

902-928 MHz is the range used by 900 MHz cordless telephones.

I have it programmed just like any other Control Channel in a bank all by itself.

Can you run T4Win or Trunker on it? If so you will get a whole lot more information.

Nope, I really do need to get that going though!

I did do some searching in the 860 range and found a Control Channel with the exact data noise. It also happens to be CG&E. I bet thats what I am hearing. Very odd though that I was hearing it in the 902-903 range. Anyone else had this happen?

If you can see the system ID in manual it helps give you and idea as to what you have found. If there is no system ID or the word EDACS then it is data to another trunking format.

I notice that there are so many new APCO 25 systems going online that they may be in the testing phase where no traffic is found most of the time. Just keep an eye on it and in a few weeks or months at most you will be rewarded.

If all the talkgroups are encrypted then a PRO-96 will not bother showing the traffic since you can not listen to them anyway.

There are a few tricks to identifying the system. Could you tell me all you know at this point, exact location of signal, sysID baud rate, any VC noted.

I doubt that it is an image from 800 band.
