I've read topics on Uniden scanners that only require the CC channels to be scanned to pick up the entire TRS. Does anyone know if its the same with the Pro-96?

I tried it on the Sacramento city/county trunking system and it seems to work just fine. :D

You are correct, the Pro-96 only requires CCs, with no special settings, unlike some of the Unidens (which require you to make a setting in the scanner).

Just as a point of reference, for Motorola TRS's, all RS/GRE trunking scanners (with the exception of the Pro-92/2067 family) are CC only scanners. Putting the voice only frequencies in does nothing except take up space in the memory bank. They do require that you take into consideration such things as band being used, for 800MHz splinter systems, you do have to set the scanner for that, and of course for VHF/UHF (for models that do them) you must set the Base/Offset/Spacing table(s) as appropriate.

No, it doesn't hurt; yes, you are wasting your time (unless you are unsure of all the CC and alt CC's).

You are wasting your time. It only needs the CC, and it will desipher the voice channels on it's own.

Until rebanding hits. Then you will have to program the tables manually. Of course, CC trunking will still be possible - you will jsut need to enter more info on the trunk system.

No, programming in the voice channels won't help when that happens.

It all depends on what system you are monitoring. I know all I havee is the CC programmed in for Motorola II

Type II won't matter. IF it's in the 866-869 MHz band, it will be gone - moved down to the 851-854 MHz band. The preprogrammed trunking tables won't work on such systems unless, on the slim chance, they use the P25 bandplan rather than the proposed bandplan. The P25 plan will work, and if they DO use that, we may all really luck out. Of course, I think they would have to change everything over to a true P25 system (9600 CC). But hey! If NexTel is picking up the tab, why not? 8)

Perhaps you can clear the fog a bit for me (if we can step somewhat off-topic for a sec)....

What does changing the frequency a system operates on have to do with "breaking" the preprogrammed trunk tables?

I know there's gotta be some simple something I'm missing somewhere. But in searching the various sites dedicated to this, I haven't seen anything anywhere (other than on the scanner sites) that says this is anything more than simply changing around frequency assignments.

Call me lost :?

Because in addition to the frequencies, the trunking tables will be changing, too. The current trunking tables for many systems do not support all the new frequencies.

Hummmm, Im not to worried about what is "going" to happen. He did not ask to predict the future. He asked if all he had to do is to program the CC to listen to his scanner. As sure as i'm sitting here, I need only my CC to listen to my scanner and it works just fine despite all this rebanding s*&t

First, nice job taking things out of context. The comment I replied to said "It all depends on what system you are monitoring. I know all I havee is the CC programmed in for Motorola II"

which was a reply to "Until rebanding hits. Then you will have to program the tables manually. Of course, CC trunking will still be possible - you will jsut need to enter more info on the trunk system."

which was a reply to "You are wasting your time. It only needs the CC, and it will desipher the voice channels on it's own. "

So, you see, rebanding (the future) was the subject, not present day programming.

And your scanner won't work fine in a year or two. I bet you'll care then!

So, yes, your scanner will work for a year or two with only the control channel. After that, or maybe as early as next year, you will need MORE than that to monitor the system.
