The pupose of this thread is to investigate if anybody in the Austin,Texas is using a Pro-96/2096
on the GATRRS P25 Phase 1 TRS and has had to load up custom trunking tables to scan this TRS ?

I ask this because I am trying to help someone living in Austin with 2 Pro-96's to RX the GATRRS ...
I see the 2 main simulcast layers are 800 Mhz and thats GREat but I also see 700Mhz sites also
I am not up there to run Pro96Comm to analyize the CC data stream being broadcast on S1 & S2
so I wonder if these CC's contain the 700 Mhz info for the two 700 Mhz sites on this P25 system.
If so I would presume that a custom trunking table would be needed to trunk track correctly on a Pro96?

Down south on the LCRA's P25 TRS most sites are 700 Mhz except for the 800 Mhz Live Oak site.
It turns out that this 800Mhz TRS's CC broadcast the 700Mhz info first and then the 800 Mhz info.
So in this example, if you don't first customize the Pro-96/2096 trunking tables they won't trunk period.
I used WIN96 to set the custom trunking tables and presto the Pro-96/2096's trunk like a champ :)

So basically is anybody "been there AND IS DOING THAT" scenario successfully as I type this ?

It's important to note that I am NOT trying or asking if the Pro-96/2096 will trunk track on a 700Mhz site!
I know it can't, If the GATRRS 800 sites contain 700 info then I need to know to make it fly on 800 Mhz.

Also, while I am pushing my luck, any Austonians know how the Simulcast Layers 1 & 2 break down ?

Austin/TC EMS and TCSO function on the countywide layer ( Is this Simulcast Layer #1 ? )
The City wide layer (Is this the Simulcast Layer #2 ? The WIKI page is not very clear on this issue )

Got this below from the Travis Co TX WIKI page so I take it that this config is still valid right guys ?

Thanks for taking your time to read and perhaps re-assure me and help a fellow Austin user.
OK, now everybody don't offer to send me your Travis Co area WIN96 files all at once now ;)

This is all a bit over my head but the 700 Mhz frequencies Downtown Austin are only being used for Capitol Police and DPS Capitol. There is so little use that you can just put in the frequencies and the Pro-96 will decode the digital signal. My BCD396T will decode the control channel and show the talkgroup if that helps. Not sure about trying to trick the Pro96 into doing it.

Simulcast 1 is mostly all public safety primary including APD, Fire, EMS, TCSO, and Corrections.
Simulcast 2 is mostly all city utilities, including water, trash, convention center, Austin Energy, etc

I don't get to Austin very often but when I do I always have issues with monitoring APD on my 96 & 2096. I'm hoping I'll learn a little something from this thread!

Thanks RB for some clarity on which agencies are on each the 2 different simulcast layers !
That is some GREat help to myself and the nice older Austin gentlman I am trying to help out.
I take it that you use your BCD-396T and do not own an older RS Pro-96/2096 scanner correct?
Thanks again for taking the time here as you have come to my rescue before a while back as well.

Tim, go to starrsoft . com and download a 30-day trial of WIN96 and plug in the trunking tables listed for the Pro-96/2096 scanner
that are listed under the Travis County WIKI page. You could brew up a config for Austin and then save in one of your Pro-96's
10 Virtual Folders to use the next time you are in Austin. Be sure to save your current working config for Pearland, TX area.
(ie Think PGM - FUNC - PGM keys and store your current working memory config. Don't worry about blowing away any one of the old
10 now next to useless, not rebanded and seriously outdated Virtual Folders that this scanner was programmed with 10 years ago.
So dive on in and get you hands dirty. Got Milk ? or better ... Got a PC/IF interface cable ? Do you already have or use Pro-96 software ?
