Pro-96 V-scanner question(s) for Richmond area

So I've switched from a 250-D to a pro-96. For anyone who lives on the outskirts of the Richmond Metro area (Goochland, Eastern Louisa, Caroline, etc.), I Highly recommend it for it's superior reception. My 250-D would barely get with an outdoor antenna what the 96 does with the 800 antenna.

Anyway, I'm still using the V-scanner pre-loaded stuff to monitor the Richmond TRS and it works well, but I've found that it 1)only has 9 total frequencies programmed into it and 2) I put in the VCU PD talk group and it doesn't get ANYTHING on it--whether I'm in Richmond or on the outskirts.

Can anyone help with this? Should I disregard the V-scanner stuff and just enter the separate systems, with all freqs in separate banks and monitor them that way? I'm just wondering what the best approach is because I've noticed that I get different freqs picking up from the different areas now on the smartnet--understandably, some pick up better than others.

Anyway, if any of you can help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I'm not familliar with your area but i can tell you from experience that the v-scanner is just a starting point because who knows how long ago it was stored. There have probably been some changes since then. What i did for my area was>>> Store the v- scanner for my area in a bank and update it from there. Then when you have everything all updated and the way you want it, overwrite the v-scanner with your new improved data or better yet use win96 and store it on your computer. I ended up re-programming all of the v-scanners for my area.... Hope this helps.

You could go with separate banks, if you have room enough, or you could simply label your control channels with alpha tags. When concentrating on a particularly locality, I sometimes lock out the other CC's.

Most police and fire dispatch TG's carry across system lines, but a lot of other activities don't.

Do you have Win96? If so, I have a V-scanner file that organizes the various localities of the Richmond system into sub-banks. Can't attach it here, but could email it.

I live about 100 yards from the Goochland line in Henrico and I have a lot of trouble picking up the Richmond system that far out...That may be part of your reception problem.
