Please forgive me if I am bringing up a subject that has been discussed in the past, but I am looking for some type of bracket that will allow me to mount the radio somewhere on the dash or windshield (suction cup mount). I have seen the brackets that allow you to utilize a cup holder or a vent (which I had at one time but broke the clip), but I would like to see if something else is available that utilizes a suction mount. If anyone has any ideas or knows the direction to point me to, please let me know. Thanx!

Cup holder mount review

I just received my cup holder mount from the Mount Guys. part number is CM623-Scanner. I had the item within 3 days of ordering it, USPS first class regular shipping, for a total cost of $21.84. The assembly instructions, like you need any, where for a different part.

The item is made of heavy plastic and is about 5'5 " long from top to bottom. The round base has two expandable legs that expand and contract to create a snug fit in a vehicle's cup holder. If you have a insert in the cup holder like I have, it has to be removed. The legs are controlled by turning a wheel located on the top of the base. This wheel is tight to turn, but this more than likely due to the unit being new.

A post comes out of the base and connects to a top mount head with tilt control that holds the scanner. I like that. The scanner is held in place on the mount by 2 cushioned spring controlled arms. I have a Pro 97 scnner and in order to make the scanner fit, I have to remove the belt clip from the scanner. The arms are compressed by squeezing them against the scanner and then released by pushing in a button on the side of the top mount head. The spring that controls the arms is noisy when released. That has me just a little worried of possible failure, but it does provide a snug fit.

I have yet to road test the item and I will do that today and let you know what happens. But for the money, I don't think that it is a bad deal.
