Has anyone else experienced a problem I had with the volume control on my R/S/ Pro 96? I recently could not lower the volume sufficiently, even though I was at the point of turning it off. Previously, I had a full range of control which is really important when using an earphone.
Thanks

Mine went tonight. Audio levels are almost non-existant. Checked the AGC, and loaded DSP 1.2 but no joy. Can get more audio by pushing down on the knob.

Guess I'll find out how warranty service works...

My wife got me one for Christmas. It was delivered by UPS from Fort Worth on the 23rd. The volume control was DOA. I could push down on the contol and it would sometimes work. Luckily the local store got 2 of them in on the 24th and I exchanged it. Been listening to it ever since. Hope this is not a sign of things to come in the future for these radios.

I have exactly the same problem. I can't turn the volume down enough anymore, and sometimes with it all the way up the sound just crashes out.

Pro 96 volume control

In "Scanning USA" july 2004 they published a article about this issue.
After taking it apart and re-soldering the volume control the problem was still there. seems to think its either a bad batch of volume controls or bad assembly procedures.

 I guess that is why i just leave my scanners on 24/7. And i don't continously play with the keyboard or knobs. Things break and wear out with continous use... Just my two cents.   :?

But we're talking only a year or so of continuous use. My PRO-60 and most of my PRO-43's are still great. My AR8200 is still mint.

And it's not just me. Lots of complaints on this issue nationwide. I don't think that we can attribute this to normal wear and tear--and my volume control was always noisy anway.

Especially for the one that was DOA out of the box!

No, this looks like a bad batch of volume controls.

 Mine is just as bad if that helps any. I found if I force the vol control to the right, it would work normaly. But when l let lose noise again. I just now found a place where it will work right. So I think it is a clearance
problem.

My PRO95 was purchased in early November 2004. Got a PRO96 on the T-day sale. The PRO95 was never used much after that, and when I picked it up yesterday to use it, the volume pot problem as described was present. This problem is definitely not a usage issue and is likely the component. The PRO96 pot feels mushy at the on/off just like the PRO95 does. Guess it will go bad soon as well.

Did GRE buy these control pots from Uniden? :?

Hello,
I currently do not use a PRO 96 but I have the same Volume Control Failure with the PRO 2052. I have e-mailed Radio Shack about it and they told me to get it into Radio Shack for testing. My advice for all of you that have that volume control problem with the PRO 96 e-mail Radio Shack's Customer Care just like I did then they will forward it over to Product Support and then you will hear from them in 1 to 2 days. When Product Support from Radio Shack e-mails all of you they will tell you to get it into Radio Shack for testing I just hope all of you still have your 1 year warranties on your scanners like I think I still do.

I did have a problem with my PRO96, I sent it back to Radio Shack and it was fixed. If you have a problem like this, it is so easy to take it to any Radio Shack store and have it sent off for repair.

Radio Shack Scanners

I knew they would fix it. How do they fix it when even when you have problems with the volume you know even if you turn it down all the way and it won't turn down? Did you get something in the mail saying that it was ready to be picked up after it was fixed or did you exchange it for an upgrade? Except when I e-mailed Radio Shack they told me I needed to take it to my local Radio Shack.

Low Audio Pro-96

I'm from Sydney, Australia and had my Pro-96 2 days before it developed very low audio. My problem however is not to do with the volume control as my unit works fine on Aircraft search (AM mode) but does not pick up any other freqs. very well at all and the audio is extremely low and somewhat distorted.

I have reset and initialised the unit with no change and reloaded files via Win96. I have tried everything and really don't want to have to send it all the way back for repair as no Oz support is available.
