Is there a difference in sensitivity between these two scanners? Do they both perform the same on analog and digital?

Just a guess but I would say there is a difference... the base models are normally more sensitive.
Although I cant confirm that for the 96 vs 2096.

Analog/digital performance seems to be similar.

If your looking to walk around the house, take public transit etc then the 96 is your best bet.
If your looking for the scanner to stay in one room (or one vehicle) then the 2096 maybe your best bet

PRO-2096 v PRO-96

Is there a difference in sensitivity between these two scanners? Do they both perform the same on analog and digital?

I recently (when RS marked them down to $379) put a PRO-2096 in my car to replace the PRO-96 that I used. Both were hooked up to a RS magnetic mount antenna.

In my opinion, the PRO-96 was slightly more sensitive, especially in receiving digital signals from Kentucky State Police.

PR96 vs PRO209d characteristics. :)

FWIW Dept:

If you open your PRO-2096, you will FIND a PRO-96 on a cradle with remoted display and controls. :)

Same Radio.. :)

I can't find the link, but the FCC Quaifications page showed that in an interior shot. :)

I have both....

I have one of each (Pro 96 and Pro 2096) and they both receive the same, whether being used as a mobile or base scanner...

BOTH are deaf on VHF Hi to a certain extent. UHF isn't "as bad" but isn't as good as a Uniden scanner. As far as low band, forget it. If you can't see the guy talking, you can't hear him.

They work fine on 800Mhz trunked radio though. That's what I bought them for, so, I don't complain too loudly about Lo, Hi or UHF. I have anothre scanner I listen to those bands on...
