I have my FIPS code in my scanner and everytime the thig goes off for an "Alert" for a storm or what ever Mother Nature is sending my way, I push the WX button to hear the message. After I push the button I get a loud tone over top of the weather person (computer) talking. I have to turn the scanner off and turn it back on to hear what the message is. Anyone else have this problem????? Just wondering if I should send it back to RS to have them look at it and try to fix it.

Are they announcing over the 1050 Hz alert tone? IOW: Does the tone go away after about 8 seconds?

I would have to say no they are not broadcasting over the tone because when I turn it off then back on again I hear the weather person talking fine. It only happens when the weather standby is enabled.

Well, if you turn it off than back on, it takes several seconds to boot back up. The alert tone would be gone by then.

You are correct. That is the only way I can hear the message though by turning it off then turning it back on. I had a pro-2067 and alls I had to do was hit the "wx" key and I could hear the guy talk. I did not know if other people were having the same problem or what.

Kevin, I forgot to give you an update - I had the WX alert on all day Wednesday and did not recieve the test alert. It never went off. Did yours?

You may have found a bug!

No it sis not but it went off yesterday evening for the "flood watch". That is why I posted this. I got that stupid tone again across the message. I am just wondering if it is mine or a glitch in the scanner.

Well it does it in both the pri. scan mode and on weather stand by. I guess it is a problem with the scanner.

If you do not hear the tone during normal WX reception, I'd say the NWS is messing up and sending 1050 Hz over top of the voice transmission.

3 Suggestions:

1: Someone with a 2096 in the same area check it against the 96 that seems to be having issues.
2: Try just using monitoring in regular mode while during times a alert would be sounded and see if you still get tonalized while voice is on.
3: It could be a bug with your 96 if no one else has issues... Check your versions etc.. and if no one can come up with an suggestion to fix it.... You may have to take it back and see if it can be fixed by GRE/Radio Shack.
