Pro 96 with GO Transit

Hi I recently bought the Radioshack pro 96 and am trying to get it programmed to work with GO Transit's system using arc96. I am able to put in the necessary control channels and talkgroups, base frequency, offset, step size, etc, however, its like the scanner intermittantly picks up the transmissions. For example, I'll hit scan and it'll pick up perhaps a couple of transmissions on a voice channel and then go back to the "scan up..." screen. After that it will no longer pick up any talkgroups unless I either select and deselect a bank or go through the process of pressing pgm, trunk, scan. It then once again picks up a few transmissions and goes back to the "scan up..." screen again. I'm not sure why this is happening as it does analog trunking just fine (picking up talkgroups etc).

I found ARC 96 did NOT import the offset settings correctly (at least for me).


Hit manual GO to the GO TRANSIT bank, hit FUNC TRUNK, then FUNC 2

make sure the settings are
Base Offset Spacing
380 8192 12.5

I believe it use to put in 791 or something instead of 8192 for the offset, and I changed it manually and hit enter and it worked fine.


Also ensure that if your plugging multiple sites into one bank that your using the "ARC special" import (basically it makes a dummy frequency in order to keep a gap between sites/systems in ONE bank.

If you use WIN96 it will import just fine as long as you check the "extended frequencies" check box. As for ARC.. it seems to have trouble with GO Transit.. no matter what scanner you have.

Yes WIN96 is a lot better. You can download a free trial period of it (if my solution doesnt work)


Im an ARC fan but its hard to stay on board with these problems across even different scanners (396 / 96 etc).

I tried downloading win96 but everytime I enter the base frequency and click save, it changes to 0.00500. Any ideas?

Keep in mind that for a P25 trunking system, you shouldn't need to enter a bandplan.

The bandplan is broadcast by the control channel.

I would make sure the system type is entered properly.

My 396t shows nothing in the bandplan section until it hears the control channel.

yes I selected the extended frequencies checkbox on the settings/weather tab, I also put in the right values into the custom table, its seems as if as soon as save it pressed or I upload to the scanner it changes to 0.005 on its own under the frequency, this is also confirmed after checking the custom settings in the scanner. Whats wierd though is that if I go into the scanner and try changing the values manually (ie. to 380 for the freq.), it won't do anything lower than the factory value of 406. I have attached a pic of my settings in the channels tab.

I programmed it without software using this method:

Press PGM , then Trunk
Press FUNC then 2

Enter Base 406.0125
Enter Offset 10273
Enter Space 12.5 KHz
Press FUNC , then 4
Choose Table for 9600 system

Enter your closest CC , hit SCAN and it should work. :)

tried the settings without programming after initialising the scanner, still nothing :-( (either that or GO is really quiet today?)

Finally got something! Can someone confirm though that most of the stuff coming through is from the Hamilton-Toronto buses?

also, now that its working, is there anyway to make is scan through different banks; when I hit scan it seems to stop over the one with the GO control channel/talkgroups.

All of your banks should have +'s over the bank digit

+ + + + + + + + +
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 meaning that all banks are open for scanning

perhaps you only have dots over the digits ? :confused:

I tried it again this morning, still not much in terms of traffic, most of the stuff I'm getting is from the GOHamilton talkgroup (actually I don't think I've gotten anything from anyone except talkgroup 12), can anyone confirm that most of the transmissions on the weekend are from them?
