Pro 96 won't scan

Pro 96 scanner will scan manually, but it won't scan when i click the SCAN button. I did all all of the recommended troubleshooting things for 'scanner won't scan when scan is pressed.' any help anyone can provide, i'm grateful. Radio Shack employees know very little regarding the scanners they sell.

There are several possibilities. Without knowing what symptom you see when "won't scan" occurs-

If the radio was programmed using a computer and a frequency was entered that the radio is incapable of receiving was programmed the radio won't scan past the frequency just before the problem. For example if you try to program 154.1375 and the radio can't do that - it will halt before trying.
If you were to manually program 154.1375 the radio would round up or down to the next step it can do (such as 154.1400) and it would accept that.
I don't recall if you can manually step to the invalid freq or not.


That's one thing to look for.

Pro-96 won't scan

What i see on the screen is the bank i've chosen to listen to (9), and it says scan up. That's it. It flashes over the number as if it is scanning, but it does not scan.

If i choose to listen to bank 6 along with bank 9. then i receive talk but it's from bank 6 only.

this scanner was programmed last year at Radio Shack. I reinitialized the scanner and then returned to Radio Shack to have it programmed again. no change in the scan issue.

I can scan bank 9 manually.

You can also possibly try a reset if all else fails. And start fresh.

Are any of your channels or banks whatever locked out?

Pro -96 won't scan

Thanks for your suggestion. I did try that. I also discovered from other forums that a couple of frequencies were added. I programed those in and now it is working fine.
