I have a PRO-96 - when I am in scan mode and it pauses on a 800 freq. when theres something going on - I push manual to stop it and listen to the whole conversation - and it puts me to that loud irritating noice not the conversation. Is this normal?
Thank you,
Terrie

Also is it good to have cities like Peoria, Glendale etc. all in the same banks? I am in Phoenix, Arizona.

Yes it is normal. When you are scanning a trunked system, and a talkgroup comes active that you want to sit on, press the 'PAUSE' button instead 'MAN'.

Forts is correct. But, since you are new to trunking, let me expand a little. In trunking mode, hitting the <PAUSE> button on your Pro-96 will keep you on that Talkgroup that you are hearing, no matter what frequency it moves to. Pressing <SCAN> resumes normal scanning.

Hitting <PAUSE> when scanning conventional frequencies (not trunking) will cause the scanner to stop on that frequency, just as hitting <MAN> will.

Pressing <MAN> when trunking, causes the Pro-96 to go into manual mode on the CC it is currently using, hence the datachannel noise.

BTW, I am glad to see that the Pro-96 seems to be working out for you. 8)

Thank you, Lou

Lou Maag,
Thank you, As far as it working out for me - its working out great. I am not sure though if I am putting these in right - I just add the freq. and listen to the talk. I would like to put them in there own banks - such as - Glendale, bank 1 phoenix bank 2, Peoria bank 3, etc. Do you recommend this?
I sure hope that one day I have your knowledge, I have read and read and my brain is still scrambled. If there was only a step by step guide I would be A O K. I have the Southwest Frequency Book and the Radio Shack PRO-96 Book and and and I am still mush  LOL
Thanks again,
Terrie

Just my 2 cents, but getting Win96 will most certainly make life much more easier for you, and help you understand the basics a lot better.

I forgot to tell ya, when I down load and upload freq. with the Win96 program - my bank 1 and bank 2 comes up showing locked in my scanner. So I un-lock them everytime. Any sugestions to why this is happening?
Thanks again and again,
Terrie :D

Locked? You mean the ID Scan banks or the Frequency Banks? I know of no way (short of locking out each frequency) to lock a frequency bank.

As to the other, yes, I would put differnt communities in different banks. Why don't you upload the file you are working with (the .p96 file) and maybe some people can help you out.

Lou,

Terrie
Opps, I guess I should tell you only certain types of files can be uploaded. Add ".txt" to the end of the file name (so it looks like this "some freq.p96.txt") and you will be able to upload it. Please do not zip it, sometimes that corrupts .p96 files.

If only we didn't have people out there trying to infect other's computers with viruses and trojans we wouldn't have to have protection from uploading possible harmful files to these threads.

Are you sure you don't mean banks 0 and 1? Go to your Settings/Weather screen in Win96 and check (enable) those banks. DL it to your scanner or to a v-folder and then load that into your scanner.

I've attached a file with this done. (don't forget to remove the .txt at the end)

Banks 4 and 5 are set as MOT UHF 400 for Luke and VHF for Tempe, but do not have the table set, and likely the Base Offset and step will need to be set for Tempe. Also, though it won't make much difference, banks 7, 8, and 9 have only conventional frequencies but each bank is set to Mot.

In addtion to what Joe and Frank have said so far, you have changed many setting that were best left as defualt on several areas. I am returning a file to you, I edited 3 of your banks 3, 4, & 6. I took out frequencies that should not be there for TRS's (the ones that are not CC) and also fixed the Luke AFB table so it will work. I am not really familiar with what is in what area, so I didn't feel comfortable changing around your banks. Also, you have Mesa loaded as a TRS. Isn't now off the air and part of some other TRS there? In any case take a look at the way I did some of the things in those 3 banks, and also note several things on the Settings Tab. Especially the battery settings. You had zeroed those out, which is why you had that problem you mentioned several days ago. The settings I put in there are not quite the default, but I find that they work better as they give you more warning about your batteries going down, giving you more chance to change them before the radio shuts off. Anyway, review what I did and see if if make sense.

P.S. I did not include all the banks in your original file, so don't overwrite the one you sent!

How come I can't open up any of those attachments that you folks are making here when I download them? When I download them they come as modules php , then when you try to open them they won't open them.

I have noticed that when you try to zip and add a file to this site that it does that also. I am running Windows XP Home Edition with XP Zip program as well as Win zip and Quick View Plus. Along with Win96 which I use daily.

Hmmm, I don't know. I tried both just clicking on a the "Download" link and also right clicking and using "Save target as" and both do the same thing, bring the file down. XP is a mystrey to me, it assumes too much for my liking, but that is another matter. Why don't you post a topic in the "Administration and Help" forum about it and maybe Lindsay has some ideas. BTW, what happens if you try and upload a file?
