Got a question concerning the seek function while doing a search through SR5 (the Ham bands).

After pressing the SRCH key the required number of times to get to SR5, I turn off all the sub bands except 2 & 4. The scanner locks on to a signal and I begin to listen, then after a few seconds it continues on its merry way to find another signal to lock on to. It finds one, and the same thing happens all over again.

Okay, so I get frustrated and look in the easier to read manual and see that the seek function is on, and it tells me how to turn it off, which I proceed to do. Now everything is fine and the radio stays locked on to the signal until the conversation is done, or I hit the arrow up or down keys. All is right with the world.

Now, fast forward to the next time I turn the scanner on and go to SR5 (or any of the others) and imagine my surprise when I see that the seek function is back on, and I have to hit FUNC+7 again to turn the silly thing off.

Okay, I said all of that to ask this.....Is there any way to turn off the seek feature and keep it off, or will this be something that has to be done every time I do a search? Granted, it's only two key presses, but still, it's damn inconvenient. I didn't see anything in the easier to read manual, or the actual PRO97 manual.

Many thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this for me.

Well, I turned on my pro97 and went to the SR5 band.

Guess what. My Seek function defaults to off.

No matter what I do, the seek function is always off when I turn the radio back on.

The exact opposite situation as you.

Weird.

Wow. This is really strange.

I've looked at several sources, but there isn't even a mention of the default settings.

No matter what I do, nothing seems to make the Seek function stay on after the scanner has been turned off.

I guess if we can't get it figured out eventually, we can trade scanners!:lol:

Well, I think I finally figured it out. The problem was in the settings it received from the WIN 97 program....

Unknown to me, the "Seek Mode ON in Search Mode" box was checked. After I unchecked it and resent the new settings to my 97, the problem was gone. WOO-HOO!!! :D :D

AHH! That makes perfect sense! Since I haven't uploaded from Win97 yet, mine must be off by default.

That's pretty cool. I didn't realize that program was so powerful.
