The new mystery scanner IS A PRO-97. Details to follow...

It HAS LTR!!!

It HAS SIGNAL STALKER! (in a GRE unit??? HOW is that?)
... or DOES IT? Quote from the manual: "Your scanner’s Signal Stalker feature lets you detect strong signals in a wide bandwidth of approx. 1 MHz to search transmission quickly."

1 MHz BW??? That's not SS, but they are calling it that!

It has MIL AIR!

IT DOES NOT SUPPRT DIGITAL P-25!

My bet this is to replace the Pro-95.

That's my guess, too.

Rob, the manual on the FCC site and in the PRO-97 Yahoo group.

It also supports the new 8.33 KHz spacing on the VHF Airband... This will be important later in 2005/2006 here as it is in europe right now (to those of us that monitor it) :p

So is SNFM, and it DOES NOT seem to support that!

I have SNFM systems near me today.

Why does the BC246T not support digital? Why does the BC898T not suport digital? Why does the PRO-99 not support digital? (ALL introduced within the last 4 months or so, or within the next month BTW!) Why do none of the Race Scanners support digital?

There IS a market for non-digital scanners or they wouldn't keep making them. Not everyone is digital yet, and not everyone will be digital in 10 years. Why force someone to spend two to FOUR times as much (or more) on a digital scanner when they can get by with an analog scanner?

Not at all. I merely replied that there is still a lot of demand for non-digital scanners. I didn't mean to come across ticked off. 8)

On a local scanner net, there was a question as to whether or not you would buy a new scanner if your present one did not receive a neighboring municipality. Half the people replied 'no'. I'm the opposite. I bought new scanners because someone 60 miles away updated their system. But, for those who only want to hear their local area, and whose local area is analog and will remain that way, the low end $100 scanners will suffice just fine for them. As long as there is a demand, there will be a supply. When the demand drops, so will the number of scanners that cater to that demand. That was my only point.

Ciao. 8)

Also another reason, as has been stated MANY MANY times---

Why put your best selling NEW digital scanner in the useless category with a better digital scanner before the original warranties from the first scanner are even up? Its called good marketing... You just put out a HH Digital scanner- PRO-96, and are just getting the B/M Digital scanner to the market. You are not going to make these obsolete before they fully saturate the mass market! Your competition releases at least 2 NON Digital Trunkers with possibly better features than you have on the market.. soooo You create your clones of them, make a few other changes, and in the case of LTR, bring back something all your customers are writing you to add again. You then put these on the market asap to compete. Then you go back to R&D and start scheming/dreaming of a next Gen Digital scanner that will be better than the one you have, and hope to beat the opposition to the punch, and get TA'ed by the FCC in time for say Christmas 2006/2007.

If your smart, your R&D guys know that 700 has been beginning to get FCC approval and is being emplemented, add it, You know allready that APCO-25 is being used on every band except VHF Lo, so you go ahead and make your scanner capable of that (duhhh). You know that SNFM is here, make your scanner capable of it. You know that the new Aeronautical freqs are comming, so you got that in the 97,.. now you know digital is comming for that AM, and for Mil Air.. you research how to be able to make it fit in the scanner. You pray that somehow M/A-Com will allow Provoice to become available..but most likely not. You already know that a scanner fanatic already will sell his soul to come up with at least $500.00 for whats on the market now in Digital scanners. Most likely he will even go as far as $600.00 for a scanner that will chew up any format but Provoice, and Heck if you did get a Provoice capable scanner.. would kiss Satan's Butt to buy one!

And your R&D guys prolly have someone reading these boards and knows whats what, but can't say when's when without tipping his/her hand.

:)

Its not a conspiracy, its not whining, its just business as usual in the scanner industry.

My warranty is up. :?

It's 'implimented' (a typo?)

In the case of these, then what would you sell all those who purchased this model NEXT YEAR!?! :p

Sure, they could make a scanner that would sell great for the next 10 years, but that's only one sale. Why do that when they can get 5 sales in the same timeframe?

You know that SNFM is here, make your scanner capable of it.

Now that IS a major flaw, as SNFM systems will very soon overtake LTR and ProVoice combined in popularity. There are already more SNFM systems than ProVoice in my area, and they will soon outnumber LTR. Not having that means alienating those who need it. Just like LTR - that was the PRIMARY reason to buy a BC296D over a PRO-96 for most people. If you eliminate the reasons to buy the competition's unit, you have cornered the market.

You know that the new Aeronautical freqs are comming, so you got that in the 97,.. now you know digital is comming for that AM, and for Mil Air.. you research how to be able to make it fit in the scanner. Me thinks you overestimate the popularity of ProVoice. I think it's much less than LTR, and you see how much like pulling teeth that was to get BACK. Besides, ProVoice is proprietary, isn't it?

Would *SOMEONE* put up a `link' to the FCC site for this unit!? All this "go here" and "go there" type of stuff is a real PITA when all it would take would be a simple `cut-n-paste' to include a link. (Or are the various Yahoo `groups' trying to be `proprietary' or `exclusive' sources for most likely`ego trip' purposes?)

Just an `Olde Fart's' 2¢ worth. {GRIN!}

Milf, some people can't follow directions that are not point-n-click.

click here ---> http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=15418

Then, click on the link beside the text that says FCC DOCS.

It's not an ego trip or proprietary source, as the thread in on the SAME BOARD AS THIS ONE. Where else should the link be except the official PRO-97 thread? :roll:
