Pro-97 DC tone problem

I have gone through 3 Pro-97s and they all have had a problem with the DC tone function. It will receive the transmission and then the transmission will cut out constantly. I know I am not the only one who has had this problem. Has anyone else? Has anyone found a solution? I think it might be a bug in the firmware that was never addressed? Thanks...

Pro-97 DCS reception problem

Hi all,

I have noticed a minor problem that appaers to be software related
when recieving DCS mode transmissions?

When either scanning or manually on a DCS channel after about 5 to 10
seconds of good reception the radio drops the conversation for about 1
second and picks it right back up again for the remainder of the
transmission, I am seeing this happen on all of my DCS channels.
Ctcss, LTR, Mo, modes all work fine.

If you remove the DCS ID and recieve the channel in FM mode, reception
is fine and does not get dropped.

In the Yahoo pro-97 group this has been noticed by other users, seems like it is checking a priority channel when it does this, it effects all bands and frequencies even with perfect signal strength.

It is a GRE software issue, but no fix yet. The Pro-96 digital scanner also made by GRE is clipping part of the conversation on a DCS channel.

Thanks for the reply! Has anyone told GRE/Radio Shack about this problem? Too me it's like having text messaging with out the text. I wonder if they are aware of it and if it can be fixed? Thanks...

I have this same problem with my Pro-97. I do not have the problem with my 96 or 2096. What is the point of having DCS if it does not work right?

I have this problem with VHF frequencies on my PRO-92. It's very annoying, but on UHF and 800/900 MHz, it works fine.

The Pro-92 has a CTCSS/DCS decoder?

Yep! In fact (as far as I know, the 92 was the first scanner with nearly instantaneous CTCSS/DCS decode. The Unidens would cycle through the tones one at a time, which made it tough when the agency was using a high tone/code. The only drawback to the 92 is that you have to select either CTCSS or DCS decode, it won't do both at the same time. However, I've only run across one DCS system, so it hasn't been a problem for me. For this feature alone, I've been hanging on to my 92s.
