When in Scan mode, it shows all the banks I'm scanning through, and each number has a Plus sign (+) or a minus sign (-) below it...what do those mean? I don't think I'm getting anything on the banks that have the minus sign, but those are the banks I want to listen to most.

The + & - signs mean a bank that is open or closed.
If a bank is closed (-) then the scanner will not pickup any trunk IDs that are not programmed into the scanner.
If the bank is open (+) then if you are missing an ID, the scanner will go ahead and stop on that ID, and show you the ID while listening to their transmission.

hence the next question...how to you change from a closed bank to an open bank or vise versa? Appreciate the answer by the way.

Page 79 of the pdf owner's manual:
"changing the open/closed mode
1. Press MAN.
2. Press FUNC then "up" or "down" to select the channel storage bank.
3. Press FUNC then ./DELAY. Bank OPEN. or Bank CLOSED.
appears. After that message disappears, the fifteenth
digit on the second line of the display changes from + to
– or vice versa."

Yeah I got there...naturally I didn't think about the manual until after I posted. Thanks again!

I do have another question though that I can't find any reference to (at least not with my current, limited knowledge of this damn radio) in the manual. There are 2 banks programmed in my scanner, that when I shoot through them manually, I can hear transmissions on the frequencies, but when in scan mode and scanning through the banks, nothing is ever heard. Anyone know what's up with that?
