Pro-97 EDACS help

i thought i programmed the local sheriffs office frequencies right which use EDACS, but everytime my scanner picks something up, i don't hear talking, i hear electronic sounds. anyone know what i did wrong?

It would help greatly if we knew what system you had programmed - find it in the database and supply the URL. 73 Mike

I'll second Mike on that. There are several systems using EDACS Provoice which cannot be monitored. My area, fortunately so far, does not have Provoice so I can't tell you what it sounds like.

If you are in FL and trying to monitor the State Police, you are SOL (and that does not mean standard of learning).

Unfortunately, because I believe this is the system, http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=608 it uses both Provoice and analog.

That is correct. Your scanner may track the talk groups, but the it cannot decode the signal for you to listen to the conversations. Read the sticky in the general forum area on 'will there ever be a provoice scanner' and also check out the Wiki.
