• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Bought a 97 in store last week with the USB cable and 800mhz ant.

WOW!

Incredible piece of technology. I love it.

When you buy a 800mhz ant. does it only work for the 800mhz range on your scanner?
It works BEST on 800, but does pick up other freqs as well. I am using it on the back of my pro2055 and 2053 that I use as mobiles, mounted on the dash. It does a well enough job on VHF & UHF most of the time. You can always try it and see.

It seemed to improve my pickup for surrounding areas.

Right now I've only really had it in the Wilmington, NC area, so picking up the main site for the county itsn't that bad. There's a southside site that didn't do so well with the stock antenna, but with the 800 mhz ant., it's done a lot better.

Grog---have you found it works well for the 2055?

Like I said, I use it mobile on the back of the units while they sit (bolted) to the dash of my vechicles. Seeing as how the antenna is laying flat, it does a good enough job. It just depends on where the unit is mounted, as if you have a chance of getting it to work well enough.

MARCS is APCO-25 (digital), so no, the Pro-97 would not be able to monitor it. You'd need either the Pro-96/-2096, or Uniden BCD396T, BCD996T, BCD296, BCD796.

I am looking at the Pro-96 or the BCD396T for digital as well,I am thinking the 396T looks like a decent radio :)
