You can't.

"Automatic Power Save-
Your scanner features a power save circuit that is automatically activated after about 30 seconds if you have manually select a channel. The power save mode works by allowing the receiver to 'sleep' briefly while waiting for a call on the selected channel and will also turn the backlight off. The power save circuit is disabled when the scanner is tuned to a channel in program mode, scanning, or searching."

I don't have a PRO-97, but my solution for this on my other scanners is to set the frequency I want to listen to as "priority", then turn priority on. It will "check" the same frequency periodically, so just a very brief blip in audio when it switches while someone is talking, and it effectively turns off the power save, since with PRI active it wouldn't power down the receiver.

Again, don't know if that will work the same for a 97.

I also recommend turning ON the PRIORITY function to over-ride the Power-Save feature of the PRO-97, and I do use it that way when needed. Keep in mind if you are monitoring a talkgroup ("ID Hold Mode") that the PRO-97 will not go into Power-Save.

Essentially to keep it from going in to Power Save you have to keep in scanning in some way. So you could also put what you want to hear in a single bank, and just leave that one bank on.
