PRO-97 Price Increase?

For curiosity, looking for RS sale prices, I dropped by their web site tonight. Surprise!! They have posted a $219.99 price for the 97, a $20 increase. The same marketing clown that prices the radio accessories is now controlling all the radio lines. Wow, I'll be really excited when RS puts the 97 on sale for $25 off!!!

I have noticed a few businesses preparing for Memorial Day. It would not surprise me if RadioShack is also getting ready by raising the PRO-97 price now so they can put the item on sale later.

It doesn't matter anyway. You can buy the scanner for less elsewhere. As for the RadioShack stores, every time I visit one of them they have almost no inventory of scanners. It is beginning to look like they know the scanner customers buy their products over the web so they don't feel it is necessary to have them in store inventory.

that is true, my pops had to check online, we have like 7 Radio Shacks and only 2 or 3 even had the Pro-97 in stock, and only 2 stores even had the cable (20-289). seems that dropping amateur radio was only the start and that it is going to be moving on to less scanner stuff as well, heck several did not even have Scanner Antennas for cars or homes in stock....

And another thing, the people that work in my local radio shacks, don't even know a lick about scanners. My county is digital and i like to go in there and ask what scaner do i need for poice/fire. They always reccomend the 2052!!!! Everybody knows that the 2052 aint digital!!!

Sorry had to vent, been holding that in for a while. Don't get me wrong I love my GRE but the employees at the shack need to go through a 2 hour seminar on scanning. At least this way they will be selling the right scanner for the right area!!!

Attending a seminar might not help.

If the RS employee's are paid a commission or there are "SPIFF's" (Basically a bounty on sales) on certain models, then they will still end up recommending the "wrong" scanner. From the point of view of their pocketbook it's the "right" scanner.
